I think the only difference is the color and the carts. The anniversary one has green ends along with a bug head on the side and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It also comes with 4 preloaded carts in the machine.
The regular E2 has silver end caps, no certificate and 2 preloaded carts which are Cricut American Alphabet and Cricut Essentials. I am not sure what 4 come with the anniversary one.
I just got the E2 today (Joann's @ $249) not sure if I like it or not though.
Hope this helps

In addition to what Stacy said, the CE2 from HSN came with the wiressly adapter. The AE2 came with the same two carts as the CE2 along with two other carts.

Sharon,

Get that machine out of the box Laugh Nothing to be afraid of.

I bought the Explore last October - first Cricut machine of any kind I have ever bought. And first of any type of cutting machine (including manual die cutting machines) - I only owned "scissors" before getting the Explore.

I had read lots of blogs, and read on forums for Cricut and for other machines such as the Silhouette Cameo, etc. of folks who had spent lots of money on these type machines, but they sat in their boxes, as folks who were so excited to order them, suddenly when faced with the actual machine, decided they couldn't bring themselves to actually trying to figure it out.Crying

I wanted the Explore for the ability of the Print then Cut feature - I have a huge stash of wonderful clipart that I have been buying (and getting freebies) over the past 15 years. I wanted to ability to cut out somethings to add as embellishments to cards or boxes etc, or make magnets, or whatever I could cut out of the max "printable" area of 6x8.5 white material.

So I watched a video, that the gal who made it, showed opening the box, and then going straight from setting it up, thru to doing the first project suggested.

And I was determined that I would open the box the day it arrived and "get it cutting" - And I Did IT!!! Yea! for me Laugh Laugh
