I am truly sorry for posting a noob question that must have been answered here at some point. A search did not pick it up.

I am a Creative Director looking to purchase several machines provided they can die cut custom shapes for comping our projects. We have the full Adobe CS5.

After searching the web, it would appear that Cricut in the past was able to make custom die cuts via 3rd party vector-based software. Cricut sued these folks (rightfully so) to protect their cartridge business and now there is no way to make custom shapes. Do I have that right?

Does the new cloud software enable custom cutting? Or is this feature permanently disabled? If the answer is yes, are there any other products currently available that can make custom cuts?

Thank you in advance for your time.

There are other cutting machines available which will custom cut designs created on your PC. None of the cricut machines have that capability although there is a vast selection of cartridges which cover just about everything.

Those machines do not cover African American images, Afros, anything of that nature. I have searched high and low for a cartridge. No Bueno. I JUST WANT A SILLOUETTE OF A WOMAN WITH AN AFRO!!Crying

Criciut cannot cut customs, and no one is allowed to talk about the other machines here, so good luck!

Hi, would it be possible to take basic shapes (round, squares etc.) and "weld" together to form new shapes?

Absolutely! Which cricut do you have? You can download the free Cricut Craft Room and create all kinds of shapes with images that you own. You have to be connected to the internet for this process.
