I have a Cricut Expressions machine. I installed the Design Studio on my Dell laptop that has Windows 7. The laptop does not seem to recognize the Cricut machine. I have updated the Design Studio and attempted to update firmware for the Cricut Expression, but my PC does not recognize it at all. When I look at the hardware listed it just says "USB - serial" and says the device is ready to use. Any help would be appreciated. Confused

You can try troubleshooting the USB drivers. Here's how:

I tried this and didn't get any satisfaction. Could it be the cord?

It says "troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem".

I had some problems getting my Cricut firmware updated using Windows 7 too. I was successful after I completely uninstalled CDS, re-installed CDS, then downloaded the firmware update.

I had problems with my Gypsy. On my old laptop (WindowsXP) and on my new laptop (windows7). After some frustration of the computer telling me to attach my cable (when it is already attached), I decided to try a friend's cord as the cable seemed to be loose in my Gypsy but first I went digging in my box of camera/cell phone cables and found a tranfer cable IDENTICAL to the Gypsy one and lo and behold it worked. It actually fits into my Gypsy better than the Gypsy cord.

Can you try a different cord?

Good luck and I HTH!

Hi everyone.

I have bought a Cricut Personal Cutter and i couldn´t use it because CDS asked me every time to update the cutter firmware. I tried to update it, but in the best case the update failed, in the worst case the Cricut was not even recognized by the laptop. I tried the updating on two different laptops and a netbook, all of them with Windows 7. No chance to recognize the Cricut.

Finally i tried it with an old desktop computer running Windows XP. This one recognized the Cricut but i couldn´t install CDS on it. Great!!!! So, i downloaded and installed Cricut CraftRoom and this software + my old computer with Windows XP allowed me finally to update the firmware of the Cricut from 1.31 to 1.34. Now the Cricut works fine with everything.

I hope this helps somebody.
