I bought my Cricut expression a few days ago, my Bday present, and thought it would be so simple to put together a 3 letter monogram where the middle letter is larger than the rest in a cute girly scripty font. Wellll, so far the only way I found to do this was in software that is no longer available to Cricut users. I'm not opposed to buying cartridges and/or new software as that was the whole reason I bought the thing. I do have boy and can use the simple block fonts for him but it seems like that's all that's offered right now. There are a few fonts that have some cute letters but I haven't found one with cute "L"'s. Can you guys help? Thanks!

I put a document together that has samples of all the fonts on the carts. Maybe it will help you decide which cart you need.

Here's the link to where you can download the file:

If you have a boy, I recommend Boys Will Be Boys cartridge. I have two little boys and this is my go to cart for them. BigGrin

I must have misread something...you are not opposed to buying cartridges but you think you need additional software to make what you are looking for? Maybe I have oversimplified this but I would look at the Mini Monograms cartridge and make your middle letter one or two sizes bigger than the outside letters...right? That cartridge has great letters on it specifically for what you are doing. Hope that info helps BigGrin

You can go to Cricut.com and look at (most of) the handbooks online to see if any of the cartridges would have type of designs of the letters for you.
When there click on information then click on library.
That will take you to the handbooks.
Click on view and it will open for you to see.
It can take a little bit to open them but it's worth it.(at least it does for me I have slow internet)
You can look page by page and see all that the cartridges have to offer.
This is a great tool for looking before you buy.
The box backs have limited pictures due to space.
(FYI Joanns has cartridges on sale right now for $29.99)
Welcome to the Cricut world! It is so much fun!!!!!

I like the Storybook cartridge and Kate's ABCs, they both have "girly" looking alphabets!
Good luck with your project.

I am new to Cricut and am wanting to do the same thing. Did you ever find a cartridge that worked for you? I was looking at the Opposites Attract Cartridge in the library of the Cricut website. The handbook looked like cute letters, but I have not tried it. Blushing

You should go to Narelle's blog and get her Font Reference sheets to easily see a sample of all the Cricut fonts.

Then go into Cricut Craft Room {the free online design program from PC} and play around. Here are some I just did playing in the software:

That is the Vine Monogram and it is available for purchase from Font Bros. You can also use the font "Monogram KK" and it is free. It is available at DaFont

You must have the Explore machine. This is the only Cricut machine that will allow you to use fonts. ALL of the other cricut machines are cartridge based and can ONLY cut from cartridges or digital designs that you purchase from Cricut - and they do not have the Vine Monogram.

There are other brands of machines that will cut this, but if you are using Cricut brand - you must have the Explore.

You can also find this monogram at Printable Monograms.com. You can create your monogram and trace it to use in the cutting software. I do not use the Explore, so I can't guide you to the steps for this, but maybe someone else can.

When using this type of monogram use lower case for the outside intials. Use UPPER CASE for the center (last name) initial. This will size the letters correctly so you have the smaller ones on the outside and the larger one in the middle.

Hope this helps!

:)
