I'm hoping to buy a cricut cake, but I was wondering if it really matters if I have a big Cricut Cake or a small one? TIA for your help!

It depends on what you want to do with the Cake. If you want to cut with a 24x12 mat, then you will want to purchase the larger machine as that is pretty much the difference between the two.

The mini used a 6"x 12" mat. The Regular cake also had 12 x12" mats originally also.
