I decided to go ahead and open for sign-ups.

What: 1 Altered Spool

Type: Any - wood, paper mache, chipboard, etc.

Specifics: You can make them into cards, photo holders, recipe holders, a decoration, etc.

Requirements: Please do use good quality adhesive and materials. Although these are quick and easy, please do take the time to make it special for your partner. The littlest of details can make such a big difference- like inking edges of paper.

Round: Start January 1 and will mail by January 31st, please post DC# to board.

No Drama please - just fun. To make this more interesting each round I am going to have a contest. You do not need to participate in the contest to join the round. This is just for fun. It is called the Dollar Store Challenge. You will find one thing at a dollar store, garage sale, thrift store that costs $1 or less and alter it. The items you use to alter it have to be from your stash. This item you will keep for your self, give as a gift, use for another swap, etc. Just need to post pictures by January 31st to enter. This is to see how creative you can be with a limited budget.

So who wants to join:

thanks Kelly - count me in. I have an idea brewing already.

from what I read, it can be a real spool of thread, a chipboard die cut in the shape of a spool, or whatever you can think of. Am I correct?

Yes it can. I even saw one on pinterest - that was made from a tube of toilet paper I'll have to find the link. (Please if any one chooses to do that, please take extra care so that it doesn't look like a spool of toilet paper with a circle glued on both ends) - The results can be beautiful if you take the time.

Of course not. There is plenty of time since the round doesn't start until January 1. I figured with the holidays upon us, I would post early for signups so people had plenty of time to sign up.

Thanks,

Kel

Jean and Robin, tryig something new is what I think is going to be fun about these rounds. Most of us haven't made these items before. I think I might play a little and make a recipe holder one as a Christmas gift to my sisters. There is more inspiration on spools on pinteret and you tube if you need some more ideas. I did post a few links a couple of posts up. I am excited to start this. I think it will be fun. I bought a package of wooden spools a while back on clearance and they are begging to be altered.BigGrin

@ Kelley: You know I always pick up on the dumb stuff; what would you do without me?? (insert angel emoticon here that PC won't give me)

@ JeanP: I don't even bother trying to plan ahead anymore. I have to wait until I have my partner and her preferences in front of me before I allow myself to do any deciding. LOL

I ordered a bag of wooden spools on sale in anticipation of this swap and have saved ribbon spools and interestingly sized spools from other products so that I'll have plenty of options when partners are assigned. Smile

And as far as partners go, I just want one that will send something in return. Two of the 3 Christmas swaps I joined were a bust Cursing

Shaping up to be a good group so far!

COB - definitely need you around to keep me in line...LOL Yes I think you need an angel emoticon too - LOL

These will be fun and easy swap. My whole purpose of this swap was to try new things that will not be a huge time or $$$ investment. I actually took a day off today....ended up working this morning from home - who was I kidding thinking I could take a whole day off. Back to cheesy christmas movies, in my jammies, curled on the couch with my blankie....then once Josh finally wakes up we are playing board games...most awesome day!
