I got the new cartridge Extreme Fonts and the box it came in says Digital Version included right on the front of it.

What exactly do they mean?

I read it to mean once I register it I should also have it digitally added to my Cricut.com account and be able to use it in CCR (WITHOUT having to LINK my cart to my account or CCR)

This would be a WONDERFUL selling point if PC started doing this with their new cartridges. Just saying.

When DVDs have this listed you get the original and the digital.

If they means "digital" IF YOU LINK IT. It should say so.

Can you tell I DO NOT want to LINK my cartridges? lol

I'm pretty sure you have to link it to activate the cutting rights for the images on the cart.

Seriously, Scrapalette, I think PC would again be shooting themselves in the foot if they start MAKING everyone LINK their cartridges they buy......when they have to know many of us do not want to LINK our cartridges.

Why would they do that? To me, it would be a HUGE loss in sales.

Maybe you're right and maybe you have some information the rest of us don't have, but I can't think PC would seriously do this.

PERSONALLY, I will NEVER buy a cartridge that has that information included on the front of it; unless I know definitely what it means.

I would take it the same as Dragonfly50.....BUT, knowing PC and how they put things out to us, it could merely mean "Digital Version included" only and if you buy the digital version with "included" meaning the "OPTION" is available.

So, I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD IF SOMEONE FROM PROVOCRAFT came on to LET US ALL KNOW what that information means EXACTLY.

ALSO, PC might be doing this only with a few cartridges, not all of them. That would be acceptable to me. EXTREME FONTS is not really a full cartridge to me and has mostly only fonts and characters on it. So, I can see that they might do this with a select few cartridges..........and that wouldn't bother me in the least. IF THEY SAY THIS ON ALL FUTURE CARTRIDGES, though, I'm going to be very disappointed.

JMHO....and not trying to start anything, Scrapalette. Just SURMISING which is what we have to do with PC, sometimes.

I recently bought CM Holiday Frames & Tags and this one also has the chocolate brown circle sticker that says Digital Version* Included. This got me excited, I thought there might be a code inside or something. But, I couldn't find anything inside or on the booklet.

Well, there is an asterisk next to Version, so I flipped the box and low and behold, at the very to, it says

* LINK CARTRIDGE TO CRICUT CRAFT ROOM DESIGN SOFTWARE TO USE DIGITAL VERSION. WWW.CRICUT.COM/CRAFTROOM
*Vincule el cartouche al software de creación Cricut Craftroom para utilizar la versión digital. Www.cricut.com/craftroom

So much for that.....

Okay. That explains it. If we want to use the digital version, we LINK our cartridges. We don't have to link them. That's nice to know. It's more clear now.

AND, I think PC must really be thinking "out of the box" on that one. To me, it's a way to get more people to use CCR.

That's great! I LOVE CCR!! Hope others take the plunge who haven't in the past and see that it is more than they ever thought it would be!!

Darn. I was all excited also.
I knew there was a cartridge inside and that was the reason I did buy it. It says that on the front.
Wish it would have had a way to activate a code so it would work digitally WITHOUT linking my cart.

I do like the fonts on this cart a lot.

This cart {and all of the others} will work digitally in CCR without linking it. You just have to insert the cart, when prompted, before the design will cut.

I got mine at Michaels AND it was during their cartridge sale last week.
Our store had 2 hanging in the cage but NO cards to advertise them hanging yet.

I'm confused. You can use the cart in CCR without linking it. Nothing needed. Just put the images on the mat, press cut and CCR will prompt you to insert the cart and then it cuts.

Now if you mean you want to be able to use it in CCR without having to insert the cart, then yes, you have to link it.

If you have to enter the cart to make the cut it really isn't operating digitally, is it?

When we first started using digitals, it was my understanding you can put ANY cartridge you own in the machine and the digital will CUT. You did, nevertheless, have to enter A cartridge to CUT.

It's not digital if you buy the physical cart. If someone doesn't want carts, they can buy the digital images and not have to insert the cart.

I use CCR all the time so I understand all about the linking and not linking.
I use my Jukeboxes because I do not want to link my carts. Just my preferance.
If someday my family needs to sell them I don't want them to have to worry about the linking issue.

I was just dreaming ...
When I buy a DVD that says it includes a digital copy (version) I can download it and use it whenever I want.
The digital copy has nothing to do with my hard copy DVD.

That was what I hoped they were doing here but it wasn't.
Like I said just dreaming.......

Alicia's POST #4 says different, Scrapalette.

Are you thinking she read/posted this wrong?

She is saying it says right on her cartridge "LINKING the cartridge in CCR" will allow you to peruse the digital capabilities.

Do you not think this is correct? I just wondered why you believe differently and where you're getting this information. It seems Alicia has shown us what the cartridge actually says.

No. What Alicia says the box says is what I said. Then later in this thread {did you read the other comments?} was the reference to not being able to use the cart without linking, which you can do by inserting the cart. . .followed by the comment that having to insert the cart isn't really operating digitally and thus, my comment that if you want to not have to use the cart, buy the digital images.

It all seemed pretty clear to me. . .if you buy a cart, to use it digitally {meaning not having to have the cart in hand when you cut}, you have to link it. If you don't want to link it, you can insert it when prompted.

Scrapalette - I know I must be confusing this, but I thought you were saying you can use the digital version just by insert the cartridge, which is not true in most cases because you actually have to PURCHASE the digital images before you can CUT them out.

I'm saying that by buying these cartridges that have the note on (that Alicia alluded to), you don't have to PURCHASE the digital (all you have to do is LINK that cartridge you bought and VOILA), you get the rights to the digital merely by linking the cartridge you bought.

We cannot do that with just any cartridge we buy.....only those that have the verbiage written on them at the time of purchase.

Are you getting that, too? Sorry to be so confusing....it's one of the things I do best.

You don't have to LINK a cart you bought to use in CCR. ALL of the Cricut carts are available in the ALL CARTS listing in CCR. Put your images/design on the mat, click CUT and IF YOR CART IS NOT LINKED, CCR will prompt you to insert the cart before it cuts.

If someone wants to "go cart-less", buy the digital version {not a physical cart that says digital on the box}.

Sorry this got so confused...

You buy a cartridge, go to CCR, design with it and when it is time to cut you put your cartridge in when it asks for it.

OR

You buy a cartridge, go to CCR, design with it and when it is time to cut you put your cartridge in, link it, then cut. (only have to link it once)

OR

You buy the digital cartridge from Cricut.com, design with it in CCR, then cut.

Sorry it got so complicated...

I just wished I could have my cake (physical cart)
and eat it, too (access to it digitally without linking)

Thanks for all of the help.
