Today I sent my husband and 14 year old out for food for the Gerbil. They come back 90 minutes later with a 20 gallon fish tank set up, hermit crabs, tank, humidifier for said hermit crabs and various other accouterments and guess what.... no food for Phil. They offered to go back out, but not trusting what else they would come back with (DS has been asking for a bearded dragon) I went myself. I have learned not to send 2 males to a pet shop alone. They are no longer allowed to go to the hardware store or electronics store alone either.
Anyone else learn anything new?

I learned it takes TWO people to unscrew twelve old-style light bulbs in three overhead fixtures in our rec room and wipe off all the sides/insides of the fixtures themselves.....except, DH would have probably done okay without me!! Well......since I retired in 2005 (nine years after he did), he's always telling everyone he can't do anything without his "boss" right there with him!! LOL.

Yes, I never know what DH is going to come home with....especially when I SPECIFICALLY tell him what to bring home. He invariably brings home the wrong thing. It has been going on for 43 years and I refuse to bite!! (By that, I mean I'm sure he thought I would stop asking him to go to the store for me). I know....I could have just told him the opposite of everything I wanted, but something told me he would actually come home with the opposite of everything I wanted!

Oh I know the feeling!BigGrin DH and DD went into a pet store a few years ago to look at fish when I was at a store next door. That is how we ended up with our first cat from an animal rescue group that was there with cats. It happened 2 more times , so now we have 3 cats! We no longer go that shopping center!LOL

Oh, Oh big laugh for today! My DD is young but learning the same lesson. Sent her DH to the pet store for dog food, and he came home with gecko x 2 and all their stuff. She has come to love them, but I still call them "creepy" (sorry for all you gecko lovers out there). Their main function is to eat crickets and lose their skin A LOT! Blechhhhh!

This is so funny, but so TRUE! My DH is not allowed to go to electronics or automotive stores unchaperoned. I learned that one very early on in our marriage. Of course, I should probably not go to ANY crafting store unchaperoned, but he's a good sport. LOL

Bringing living creatures into this home requires a unanimous vote. BigGrin

This is SOOOO true! Actually, I can trust my son, but not my husband. He likes lizards and snakes, but since I am the one who cares for the animals, I said "no"!!!

Really cute Westie, btw!

Thank you. He is a Cairn (Toto from the Wizard of OZ) I have a friend who has bearded dragons and when they go on vacation I get to feed them (yay...not) I just flip an egg carton of crickets in the tank and when I go back the next day I take the empty out.

My DH did not come back with a new pet, but he and one of our DD did go out one day to pick up a portable fan. They came home with a new Sebring convertible. I would have been annoyed that they forgot the fan, except for the fact...THE CAR WAS FOR ME. what a surprise Wub

We had 3 blond daughters living at home at the time and they made no bones about the fact they thought they looked better driving the car than I did. I think they were right, aarrgg. Crying Huh Cool

Laugh LOL LOL LOL ! A lesson I myself learned the hard way as well. Though mine involved a Thanksgiving morning, unexpected guests, and DH and sons returning from WalMart with the extra groceries I requested, and a flat screen TV and Dish satellite system, which of course needed set up before the football games started. Lets just say furious does not come close to describing my state of mind! We made it through what turned out to be a wonderful day full of cherished memories, without me exploding all over my sweet DH. That night, however, was spent CALMLY ironing out a few new rules about holidays, spending limits, and the definition of the word PARTNERSHIP...LOL! Trips to pet stores, electronics stores, and sporting goods stores are now strictly monitored, though they still manage to find wiggle room every once in a while, and surprise me with some unexpected purchase. Of course, DH has to hold his breath all Spring and Summer, as I return from my yard sale excursions with furniture to refurbish, bits and bobs to put on cards, clothes for our ever growing sons, and who knows what else will catch my eye! I am soooooo much better though as far as the actual money spent. I am not going to break the bank at a yard sale! Enjoy your new additions to the family. GG

I am the one in our family that tends to bring little critters home.

Well our first dog was a Christmas present from my husband (8years ago)
Then 1 1/2 years later I went to the vets office to get some doggie meds and I brought home our 2nd pup.

Then I went to work at petsmart and in the almost 2 years I worked there I brought home beta fish 1. a frog 2 more betas (at different times) a guinea pig. I would have brought home a cat but that would have been the end of me..... I can't have a cat that has to have cat litter (allergic to cat litter) and I don't believe cats should be outdoor animals.

I really can't go into petstores that have animals. I would love to bring them all home... and when petsmart has there adoptions days when they bring in the shelter dogs I can't even come with in miles of the place. I want to rescue them all....
