Just wondering how long before I have to think about making funeral arrangements. I've been using my Gypsy now for 14 months. It's up to date, and I regularly do the Sync after new cartridges are added to CCR. So - right now, no problems.

But I know eventually it will die or be murdered by a PC update and there are no more available.

All you ladies that have living Gypsys or dead Gypsys - what would you say the average life expectancy is?

I'm on number 3... the first lasted just over a year; the second lasted about 7 month; my current is just over a year and a half. All over the map. So this tells you... absolutely nothing! LOL I use my G, sporadically. It'll tend to sit for a month, then I go to a weekend crop and give it a workout. I do notice the battery doesn't hold a charge like it used to, but that's pretty typical for rechargable batteries (I have the same problem with my cordless phones and laptops after a while).

The 2 things I have read about contributing to the demise of the device is

1. The usb port breaks and falls into the device
2. The battery will not hold a charge.

**** This does not take into account the "death by update" scenario.

I've heard some ladies have had the usb re-soldered into place. But can the battery even be replaced if it goes?

When did the Gypsy launch? Fall 2009? I have had my original machine since the first launch on HSN. I remember taking it on it's first airplane flight to CA to see my DD and planned out all the cuts for my Christmas cards that year. Returned from the trip and Cut! Still going strong and hope I didn't jinx myself. Knocking on wood right now.

I have had mine 3 years and the usb connection fell in TODAY as I was preparing to do the update and CCR link... and I have been trying to order the gypsy repair and I keep getting "payment declined" which, according to Chase Bank, is a glitch with the merchant...

Good luck and good night!!!

Re: post #4-- you are on your 3rd gypsy? How were you able to link the cartridges you had on your previous gypsy? I'm tempted to buy a new one and start over but didn't think I could relink my cartridges?

I'm with Julie, I fell down the Gypsy rabbit hole and have had mine since the Gypsy launch. I don't use it everyday, maybe a few times a month, so far so good. I had one huge issue with an update. I had to reformat and reload over 120 cartridges, yuck. I still can't get my George cartridge to load. I love my Gypsy and will cry if and when it dies. I'm updating right now, so hopefully it's not todayLOL
