RED, WHITE & BLUE SWAP

MAILING DD: JULY 20, 2013 (although you can mail in June before the 4th of July holiday, if you so desire)

CRAFTING LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: EVERYONE WELCOME, WILL NOT BE SECRET SISTERS

PURPOSE OF SWAP: To create and/or buy 9 themed craft projects and products for your partner, using a red or white or blue, or any combo thereof, majority color scheme. Each item does not have to have all three colors on it. You can work with red alone, blue alone, white alone, or you can do RW&B patriotic. And you can incorporate other colors into the item too. A red ladybug flying by a yellow sun qualifies.

At least 5 of the items must be home-made, and not store purchased.

Obviously, 4th of July is the major theme but other themed options are also included if you want to mix it up a bit to gear better toward your partner’s interests. For example, picnic theme could incorporate red and white checked tablecloths and napkins, etc.; Western Cowboy theme - blue bandanas; shades of blue = ocean or pool; shades of red = sunsets; blue pinstripes = baseball; and so on. Turquoise shade of blue could be used in grunge or steampunk to get that color rule followed.

You will find 16 summer-time themes listed below. You will use these themes to help you come up with ideas for your partner. You can use the same theme more than once. You absolutely do not have to choose 16 different themes.

Example: Your partner may be a huge fan of patriotic embellies and crafts and may ask that her box of 9 goodies be all RWB patriotic themed. So you will have to double up on some of the patriotic themes suggested below as there are not 9 patriotic themes suggested below.

Or your partner may say she would love to receive some 4th of July themed items, but would be just as happy to receive beach themed projects and then some items for all her grandson's baseball pictures she'll be scrapping this summer. She's not giving you 9 separate themes, so you can double up any way you so desire to cover what she has suggested she'd like to receive.

Store purchased items that qualify for this swap are listed in the next post under the Purchase Category. Remember, you must include at least 2 items from this list but can go as high as 3 and 4 items.

EXPENSE: Shop wisely, using coupons and buying on sale. You can expect to spend $7-10, plus cost of mailing to your partner. I do not want or expect anyone to spend over $15, but the absolute cut off cap is $25 worth of product, shelf price, not on sale! Or the other way of looking at it is, please keep the shelf price of your total purchases within budget. It's fine to choose to buy 2 $10 items, but use coupons and only end up paying $10 total. And it's just as okay to choose to buy 2 $5 items, but use coupons and only end up paying $6. I'm all for buying on sale or using coupons to decrease your actual out of pocket expense!

Purchases must be current products in stores and popular or droolworthy and a product the majority of us would find very useful & desirable.

Note: My wish is that we all can find some time to equally craft and enjoy the summer! Therefore, I do not expect all home-made items to be super intense, time-wise, but I think it’s fair to ask that 2 items be more along the line of “a major project”, with time involved. I do expect you to make wise decisions – items your partner will find useful, or make her laugh when she unwraps it or something she can study to learn a new technique, etc.

RULES TO FOLLOW – Please see KelleyRook’s general rules. IF YOU DO NOT CHECK IN WITHIN 14 DAY TIME PERIODS, YOU WILL BE REMOVED, NO 2ND CHANCES AND NO EXCUSES OTHER THEN LETTING ME KNOW AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE AWAY ON VACATION FOR LONGER THAN 14 DAYS...

http://www.cricut.com/fo...-Rules-for-my-swaps.aspx

Common sense, honesty and courtesy expected to be conveyed by each participant.

1. Please list some of the above themes that interest you most.

I like any of the themes. I would prefer to receive a mixture of both patriotic and then just other summer time themes. We do have a pool here. We vacation in Vegas yearly and we'll be going on a cruise at Christmas time. Our family vacation is going to be Amish country, Hershey Park and Gettysburg this summer.

My DGS does play baseball, David, age 7

I love western theme - no explanation why, I just do. Maybe it's from watching westerns all my life growing up! lol DGD loves horses too.

And I do love lemonade and lemon recipes! ha ha! I love the color yellow too! (my mother hates it which is the only thing she and I differ on in life, I swear!)

2. Or, in the alternative, please list any themes that you would not find useful or enjoyable to receive in your swap box.

We don't have Family Reunions, per say...so that's one theme that I would not find immediately useful

EDITED TO SAY: We are now having a family reunion on Father's Day for the first time in many, many years and looking forward to it! I have been bugging the heck out of my family that it was time to do this again!

3. Please list some ideas from the purchase and project categories that interest you most to receive in your swap box. I'd be interested in any misting sprays other then tattered angels. ie: Heidi Swapp now found at M's, Dylusions now found at J's, etc.

Also, at M's, Heidi Swapp has other embellies on display, like white flowers to spray with the misting spray. Her other products would interest me.

A BBQ sauce, rub, or other food special from your area would be interesting too!

I wouldn't mind receiving an altered container to hold certain items on my work table. For instance, JeanP altered a soup can way back when and I use that to hold my glue pens. I have a tendency to grab containers from the kitchen of that size or slightly taller to hold items that overflow from my tool caddy. And any theme is fine. I just figure an altered container is by far cooler to look at as opposed to a clear deli container.

I was in both the mousetrap and paintbrush swaps....both for my kitchen...so I'm not opposed to receiving either again if that interests you in making...but just not themed for my kitchen please.

I do own a vast stash of TH products but there are many of his products that I don't mind receiving more of, like packets of gears or other items good for embellies for grunge and steampunk projects. One can never have enough of half pearls or flourishes. And I go thru Versamark embossing pad like water cuz I emboss everything I stamp, pretty much. I love Verse stamps, whether Happy Bday or inspirational verses to use in the mini albums I make.

4. Or, in the alternative, please list any product or project that you already have enough of or would never use, etc. I don't need any ink pads. I do not need stickles either. I have a pretty good stash of colored flowers too.

I have the most perfect "CREATE" banner hanging in my craftroom (thank you Cheryl) so that's something I don't need to replace anytime soon!

5. Is there a certain shade of red, white, blue you prefer? I really like the vintage shades of RW&B patriotic items. But I also like the traditional RW&B too.

Bo Bunny has a new 4th of July paper pad out that looks super nice. I love checking out the seasonal new paper pads that come out by these different paper companies. I always wonder if they are as pretty in real life as what they look like online.

6. Is there a color you do not like? I like all 3 colors, any shades

Penny, I know what you mean about the time contraints and just being summer too!

ChefKimmo hosted this RWB swap 2 summers ago and we all had so much fun creating although we basically all did 4th of July theme and some BBQ items.

So I've wanted to do it again....but I couldn't open it up any sooner cuz everyone was already signed up for swaps and the partner swaps.... SO I've patiently waited to get to the end of the partner swaps, but then in order to have fun with collecting a nice assortment of 4th of July and other themes....adding up to 9 items...I knew next to no one could get done before the 4th of July...so that's why I added the other themes to include more of a summer time swap too and give us more weeks.

The good thing is that all the 4th of July items will go on clearance before the DD in July...so we can always take advantage of those sales to help us out with this swap! lol SO we are being a little sneaky here!

I'm not in any hurry to close this so hopefully we'll pick up some more players this next week.

good use of word there...."enlist" So appropriate!

Now, I can't wait to see what you say about patriotic themed items and your dislike of blue!

Jean was teasing me this past week that I wouldn't want to receive one of her Dirty Dancing chunky dangles in another swap as it will be in a color combo I dislike. But, for me, my personal tastes change when that color combo I dislike is the only appropriate color combo to use for a specific theme. Does that make sense? Would I get all excited over pink and black notecards? No. Would I think a pink and black Dirty Dancy Chunky Dangle is pretty cool? You bet! Esp. if there's a picture of Patrick Swayze on a charm....(God rest his soul)

Or, I'm not all that much into muddy colors...but yet, as those colors are what make grunge and steampunk work.....then I like that muddy combo, when the item is well made and really neat looking! So I do waiver from time to time on what I like or do not like.

So now, Barb, I'm curious to see if you waiver on blue...

ok my life should be all sorted out by then.. i love this swap when we did it a couple of years ago.. please sign me up.

will answer ? later.

Running list of Questions that will need to be answered by each participant:

1. Please list some of the above themes that interest you most.

Christmas in July
Summertime mudpie
SOFTBALL bash
4th of July - Its hot outside
Snap, crackle, pop - always like surprises

2. Or, in the alternative, please list any themes that you would not find useful or enjoyable to receive in your swap box.

Family reunion
4th of July parade
Lemonade Stand

3. Please list some ideas from the purchase and project categories that interest you most to receive in your swap box.

Bling
TH Product - can always use these
Metal dies
Glimmer mist
Ribbon lace or twines
6x6 or 8x8 paper pad - you never have enough paper.

Summer banner
Ticket strips
gift bag and tag

4. Or, in the alternative, please list any product or project that you already have enough of or would never use, etc.

This answer might be more helpful. I do not need altered paper clips, stickpins, altered notebook or recipe cards.

5. Is there a certain shade of red, white, blue you prefer? I would like more of the vintage or duller tones not a big bright color fan.

6. Is there a color you do not like? I know this gets me in trouble but i don't like Pink.

Sorry for being such a lazy one, but here is my list:

Running list of Questions that will need to be answered by each participant:

1. Please list some of the above themes that interest you most.

My themes will be Patriotic, Summer Vacation, Under the Sea, and I am always up for surprises like Snap, Crackle, and Pop

2. Or, in the alternative, please list any themes that you would not find useful or enjoyable to receive in your swap box.

Please dont include anything related to Family Reunion (I have enough for this), Lemonade Stand, Baseball Bash , Wild Wild West, South of the Border Fiesta

3. Please list some ideas from the purchase and project categories that interest you most to receive in your swap box.

I would love any metal findings, any wood findings (like Prima or Kaisercraft), a jar of gesso, a jar of Liquidex Modeling paste, anything with chicken wire theme, any stencils for background use in mixed media (this has been my new interest->can you tellBigGrin BigGrin

I love cooking and baking Flapper , so I would love to have any BBQ rub or recipes from your stash. I would love to have any specialy snack items that only your region would have as well (like New Orleans has so much food times that pertain only to their city).

From the Purchased Category: I do need pop dots, Tom Boy liquid adhesive, Tim Holtz Swivel Clasps, any Tim Holtz metal embellies, Tim Holtz Metallic paint in bronze, copper, or silver; any Graphic 45 6x6 or 8x8 pad (this is my favorite paper line), any lace

I do love hand made items of vintage, grungy steampunk themed items like, tags, cards, ATC, small tickets, altered bottle caps,

4. Or, in the alternative, please list any product or project that you already have enough of or would never use, etc.

I am a hoarder of: mists, stamp pads, stamps, flowers, metal dies, ribbons and twine.

I dont need or will ever use: altered mousetrap, paintbrush, clothespin, paper clips, summer banner, chunky charms (i've participated in a lOT of CC swaps->so if you want me to make you one or two or three, just say the word), no die cuts ( i have a lot of spellbinders, memory box) , no smash book anything

5. Is there a certain shade of red, white, blue you prefer? Vintage like the color shades used by Graphic 45 or Tim Holtz

6. Is there a color you do not like? No neon

Gail

I am so happy to see you all joining! It's shaping up to be a great group of crafters!

I was just browsing down thru the some of your answers....I see I need to send sour lemon candies to most of you....cuz you don't like the idea of lemonade!

I sit here envisioning a comfy wicker chair, on a beautiful front porch, sipping ice cold lemonade on a hot, hot day....

Or I can especially envision myself sitting at a picnic enjoying a yummy piece of lemon pudding cake that I just adore.....

Good thing I'm too busy finishing up my other swap to have time to go bake that cake right now! lol

Mint filled oreo cookies is going to get me thru the weekend instead! lol
