I would like to add that cats are very good at keeping watch. They are protective of their homes (territories) and will alert at sounds, smells and intruders. In their own way they are like an alarm system.

Great pics Y'All I am enjoying them as much as Nan!

DD's kitty is a Manx. No tail! She is such a quirky kitty... Just love her so much!

Nan...

If I ever am able to get another kitten my plan is to sit on the floor with them and which ever one "claims" me by crawling up in my lap and snuggling will be the one I choose.

Have fun picking your kitty!

Cheryl

That is basically, what happened to me. The first cat they brought me just laid in my lap, but the 2nd one cuddled up in my lap, head on my arm, and just purred away. As I say, he adopted me!BigGrin

Almost 4 years ago a mother cat gave us her 5 kittens. We could only find homes for one, our area here is full of cats. So we took inside the 4 ones, they are 2 black, one gray tabby and a tortoise shell manx, (the one we gave away was a himalayan.) Mommy cat really got around. Back to the 4. They are the best. I never had cats, have watched cats, had many friends with cats. Well, our house is full and happy. One cares for me and watches over me. One is my Ds's shadow and all are so sweet. My DS bathes them, trims their nails and uses a furminator to groom them. They are fun, happy, so smart! I never knew cats could bring me so much joy.

If you are near Ohio we have 2 one year old girls that need a home. We have adopted out their brother. Tell your hubby love comes in all sizes shapes & fur. Just explain purr, purr, purr. BJR.

Lily says, cats unlike puppies/dogs.....

1. Don't eat socks
2. Don't eat shoes
3. Don't eat books
4. Don't eat your laundry
5. Don't eat their own poop - Confused blech...cat's would never do that!!

Lily says Nos. 1-4 can cost you a pretty penny at the vet each. She knows...her wonderful doggie cousin ate the laundry on 3 different occasions and the vet bill was over $300 each time; not the mention the cost of the lost laundry :(

Save $$$ and adopt a cat LOL

Cool He wants a dog instead of a cat.....
Razz I'll loan him my brothers dog....it barks at the doorbell, it barks when the phone rings, it barks at visitors(it shuts up when your still, but if you get up it starts barking again),he even barks at the tv(certain sounds:doorbell, phone, gunshots, game shows, other animals).
Laugh he got the dog from the pound and calls him "BARKY"Laugh Laugh

I had a dog but she was a lady....she hardly ever barkedLaugh
RollEyes I thought about a cat...their QUIET! but then I see videos and the cats are laying or getting into their craftsOhMyGod OH NO!!! I can't have that!!! my craftroom doesn't have a door.Sad So I'm petless right now......

BigGrin with all this modern technology I'm sure theres an app for a barking dog or maybe find an app for a digi dog- have him get up 3am despite the weather and let the dog out, come home from a long hard day at work and despite the weather take the dog for a walk(don't forget the pooper scooper).....LOL AH YES, Mr Macho scooping poop.....LOL LOL what would the neighbors think??LOL LOL

I have 5...yes 5 cats that range in age from 19 years down to 1-1/2 years. I almost always have one or two as constant companions throughout the day if in the house...they follow me around like the dog does. They are a huge joy to have and while 5 is more than we wanted I wouldn't trade any of them. Each of our kitties came to us in different ways one was born in our house, his mother adopted us and is one of the 5 and the matriarch. One was brought home by one of the kids after going to the vet with his girlfriend...he got suckered and we ended up keeping her when he moved away (I wonder who was suckered on that one). One we inherited when my husband's mother passed away, and our baby was abandoned and starving and was no bigger than my hand when we found her.

If you can adopt a stray as they are desparately in need of homes. You will findou they will give ygreat joy. Good luck on you quest to convince hubby.

I guess I'm going to be negative on the cat issue. Reason being, my mom has two cats & has had them for 10 yrs or so, she found them in her barn & the moma cat was hit by a car so mom fed them with an eye dropper. They were so, so tiny & the vet couldn't believe they lived.

The male cat is now spraying in a couple places {that we know of} is her living room. ThumbDown I know she either has to take him to the vet. or find someone else to take him. So sad since she is so attached to him. As you know the spray smells horrid!

Good luck to you,
Janis

Like I said before, owning a dog is as much responsibility as being a parent. Remember, even when you are sick, extremely tired and still want to sleep (at 5am), the dog still needs to be walked. Whether is pouring rain or blizzard conditions outside, either you or Mark has to take the dog out to do his business. Even if you just tie the dog up outside so he can "take care of business", which many people do there's the matter of "cleanup". I'd rather scoop the kitty pan any day than clean up after the dog. YUKE!!!!!

Well I have to say I love my cats and they are so much fun. Sometime too much. LOL!! they sometimes tend to get into things they shouldn't nut I would not want to live without them. I am not married nor have a BF so I don't have to worry about a man not liking them. But if you Husband would just be around one for a few minutes he would fall in love.

Hope you get to get one.

If this is a cat that has never been a sprayer you may want to investigate to see if something is stressing him...has something changed? Is his kitty box cleaned regularly, has something changed in the house? Furniture moved, has your mom's health changed, new people in the house? Cats are funny creatures and some do not like it when there are changes. For good measure take him to the vet to make sure he isn't sick. If this is an ongoing problem...my solution would be to throw him outside...but that is not always possible. As far as cleanup...in areas that can tolerate bleach I would use Clorox Cleanup to clean the area...it is pretty good at getting rid of any cat smells, you might have to clean it more than once. If the area does not do well with bleach (like carpet or upholstery) then try using a solution of Lysol and water. Get the old fashioned Lysol...the concentrated kind. This can be added to the water in a carpet cleaner...just don't use so much you will smell Lysol for weeks. If you don't have a carpet cleaner a bucket of water and scrubbing works. As a pet owner I totally understand where you are coming from regarding the spraying. I personally do not like the smells of cat boxes and such so we stay on top of it. We keep the boxes in the garage and mine are all trained to use a pass-through and the area is cleaned and mopped regularly with bleach..including the cat boxes.
