I met a lady through my boys school who has just started card making and got herself a Cuttlebug.

Do they still make new dies for these things? I rarely use mine for anything other than embossing.

I suggested she get a Cricut. She went online and looked up what a Cricut was and got a bit overwhelmed LOL I think she may just pop over and use mine. But she really wants more dies for her new purchase.

They do still make cuttlebug dies (I see them listed at Joanns online) but I know she can use sizzix thin dies in the cuttlebug. and there are other brands she can use too. But let her use your cricut, expecially the CCR if you have it. She won't need that cricut except for embossing folders!! Show her the value of the cricut and the carts..being able to make different sizes and how many images are on each cart. Oh and going digital..means she won't have to go to the store and ever buy a physical cart!

Spellbinders work with Cuttlebug as do most of the medium and thin dies by any company. I do a lot of cards and I can't imagine living without my Big Shot (Sizzix version of the Cuttlebug).

Cottage Kutz, Memorybox, Heartfelt Creations dies, spellbinders, Lifestyle Crafts, Cheery Lynn, are examples of some of the dies that can be used with the cuttlebug. The thin dies will need the C plate.

Yeah, and if CCR crashes or won't let her in (it hasn't let me in for almost 2 weeks) she won't be able to craft at all. Going digital isn't for everyone. A newby should be given the pros and the cons so they can make an informed decision about what's best for them.

Pretty sure they haven't made any new Cuttlebug dies in a long while. But I haven't run across another brand I can't use in my Cuttlebug with some combination of the plates and that includes the big Sizzix and Tim Holtz dies.

Cricutmachine.com has great prices on some of these and the die cut/emboss combos. Most are older ones but if she's just beginning, she may not have them yet.BigGrin http://www.cricutmachine.com/specials.php

True! I'm a physical cart person myself. But some carts aren't available any more and was the only way I could get them without spending a fortune. I have not had trouble with CCR except linking a couple carts to it. :)

A cricut cart from Anna Griffin - that's very promising. If PC is going to release another licensed cart, then that says to me that they're still trying to stay in the game. I expect it will be very ornate or flowery. Her stuff usually is. Hope it has a font.
