I spent just shy of an hour and wasted 2 sheets of cardstock trying to cut a 4 inch tall Cookie Monster. I changed blade depth. I changed pressure. I changed paper. Nothing worked. Just shredded the cardstock. I'd just cut a perfect Elmo before I cut Cookie, so my frustration level rose quickly. Finally it hit me. Maybe I should try changing the blade. I changed the blade, moved the blade to a new position on the mat, readjusted my settings to what is recommended and viola! Cookie Monster cut beautifully. Ah well, it gives me an excuse to buy more cardstock, doesn't it?BigGrin

I guess I'll have to break down and buy some blades at Michaels since my local Walmart doesn't carry Cricut products anymore. It kills me to pay $16.99 for blades, though. Maybe I'll throw my little guy in the car and take a mini road trip across the border tomorrow. I'll call Walmart first just to make sure they have them. No sense in driving 90 miles, one way, for nothing... right? Flapper

I keep a big old stock of blades. I buy from Amazon Prime or often find them for a good price on eBay. Just recently bought 16 blades, 2 trimmer blades and free shipping for $29.

I'll definitely check out eBay. $29 for 16 blades and 2 trimmer blades is awesome. I usually only keep 2 blades in reserve. I'm using my machines more so I really need to pick up extra blades.

You don't have to buy Cricut blades. You can use the ROLAND cutter blades. The 45 degree angle is the same as the regular cut blade and the 60 degree angle is the deep cut. This is all I buy now. They work perfect. And in fact I no longer even use a 45 degree regular cut blade. I just load my machines with the deep cut (60 degree) blades in the standard houseing. No need for a seperate housing unit.

I use the Roland blades, too. They work great. I generally WON'T buy from China on ebay, but I found a great price on blades from China a year or so ago, so I am set for a long time!

Here is the seller I purchased from, at the recommendation of a MB member. This is a current auction. The shipping didn't even take all that long!

Seriously? You can use J's coupons for blades.. mats... and vinyl? Can I print J's coupons off their site? I'm in Canada.

I use the joann's coupon all the time for mats and blades. I have a nice little supply of these items. I'm going to try the roland blades though.

Thanks, I did not know you could use coupons on those products, I thought they were all off limits to coupons.

Not only can you use coupons on Cricut accessories at JoAnn, but you can use more than one coupon, as long as they aren't the same. One time, I use a J's 40% off, a 50% off, a 50% off that they texted me and a 40% off Michaels coupon all on the same receipt. I can get everything in one trip. And there's no need to bring my DH and DD along.

Printing J's coupons to use at J's will ONLY work IF you have a J's near YOU! I don't believe there is a single J's store in Canada.

I LOVE this about Joann's!! My Michael's only lets me use ONE coupon period. Even if I have a Michaels & a Joann's coupon, they still only let me use one or the other. If it weren't for the fact that my Michael's has more product to choose from, I wouldn't go there as much for the simple fact that they only let me use one coupon.
