Curious to see if others have been collecting steampunk stamps and would like to share with each other. If there is an interest, then here is a quick and fairly simple swap for us to gather up some steampunk stamped images for future use on projects, tags, cards, swaps, etc.

This is for steampunk/blueprints/grunge/industrial themed stamped images. If you are not sure whether your stamp qualifies for this themed stamp, then please ask.

Due Date in my hands: Friday, July 12 (agreeable to a different date if we need to wait for preorder stamps, ie G45 new release coming out this month)

Good quality stamping Cardstock needed

You must use clear embossing powder (or appropriate colored embossing powder, like copper for gears) to emboss and thereby “seal” the stamped image so that we can each use inks, sprays, etc. to sponge around the stamped image to finish it off when we use it on a future project.

Many of these steampunk themed stamps aren't images that you end up coloring in with copics, but rather I seem to be using them as a plain, not colored in, image, but need to sponge around them or distress around the image with some technique that further leads to the steampunk look and grunginess of the image. So that is why I am asking that we heat emboss the images to protect the stamped lines.

You can join as many groups as you like, but you must use a different steampunk stamped image for each group unless permission is granted by me to re-use in more than one group. Also, when you sign up to join, please list the stamp company or name of stamp or stamp sheet so that we do not have too many duplicates.

Assuming your cardstock will be 8.5 by 11, cut it into quarters. Naturally, if your stamped image is larger, then use a half sheet instead for each stamped image.

Stamp with black or brown (or appropriate colored ink for the design of the stamp) and heat emboss, using clear embossing powder, 10 images for each group you join.

Please package each set of stamped images in a baggie and label with the Group No.

It would be nice if you would also take 10 minutes to write in pencil on the backside of the image the brand of stamp or name of stamp set for future reference.

Mail your stamped images to me by the Due Date.

I will then sort them and return an assortment of stamped images back to you within 7-10 days.

I can re-use envies but do remember to include enough money for return postage or stamps and make sure your return address is legible on the envie or include a mailing label. (Anything to make the sorting and re-packaging process easier on me)

To name a few companies I have bought steampunk themed stamps from: G45, Hampton Arts, Tim Holtz, Lost Coast Stamps, Prickly Pear, Whimsy Stamps. Steampunk themed stamps or sets have become quite popular this past year or so.

I am in no rush to close this...so it will be open for several days as long as there is an interest for this type of themed swap.

COB - can I post a suggestion without sounding too bossy please?

I haven't looked up your stamp yet to see what it looks like....but I would think that this is one type of stamp, being a flourish, that you should stamp it in a corner or off to side or along edge so that there will be open space left large enough for a different stamped image to be added to the scene of the flourish.

Does that make sense?

But I do love the idea of a flourish! I don't think I have a steampunk flourish either! lol And this is exactly why I am hoping we all can work together and provide an assortment of images for each other.

I would suggest same way of stamping if someone has the column of gears....which is like a flourish of sorts.

I'm interested... just one question; for the paper do you have a preference in the color? should it be white, neutral, or kraft paper?

My first choice would be white or neutral.

But the kraft paper would certainly give the steampunk theme a good look too. I wouldn't want all of us to use kraft paper though. But some wouldn't bother me.

As long as you use common sense and decent paper, it's acceptable.

It just needs to be so that we can incorporate it into our projects and be usable.

Good majority of the Tim Holtz stamp sets would fall into this category. I would be happy with the umbrella man you used on ATCs as I do not have that stamp. It sort of falls into the industrial side of this theme.

Or just go google steampunk stamps and you will discover all kinds of stuff. Plus I listed the name of companies above where I have bought from.

I know steampunk has been around for years, but for me, it seems to have not really hit the crafting shelves until Tim Holtz started selling his products going from vintage into the industrial and steampunk and now his blueprint stamps. Then I started noticing other companies offering more product and esp. when G45 brought out their paperline. So chances are you are not going to have anything in your stash from prior years. Pretty much going to be stamps you've bought this past year as more and more of us started to enjoy crafting with steampunk theme (thanks to Kelley, peachy, etc.!!)

I've been collecting Steampunk stamps for atleast the past 4 or 5 years (notice I said collecting and not using.LOL ). Cats Life Press has alot of interesting stamps. I was a little short on cash this summer and sold about 25 of them. Steampunk goes back along way and probably the coolest stuff out there. JMO

thanks for the name of that company, Deb. Like I said....I know it's been around but it's really just been the past year here on this MB that we really started to get into it and need supplies to craft with.

That's a shame you sold all those stamps! lol

I was just looking at their catalog and looks like it changed. I think some of their stuff will still work.

Tell me about it Gwynne. The only good thing is that I got full price for them. Guess I should have looked at their catalog before so I knew they were no longer available. Lack of funds makes us do strange things. Lol

Terri, Do you mean you have some kind of verse stamp that has to do with steampunk? Or even just the word "steampunk" Cuz that would work for me.

Either center the verse so we can cut it out using a nestie, etc.

And I think the eye chart and eye would work too. These are images that can always be cut down and placed on a project, like how they are adding all these items to a mixed media canvas, etc.

Or if it's just one word....maybe consider positioning it in lower right hand corner so we can put another full image on the paper too.

SO I'll add you to the list Terri.

Caffinee - I know I will love the blueprint Toy Soldier! I loved his steel die that came out last fall of the toy soldier/nutcracker....didn't buy it though.

Hi - I would be glad to do this ... I don't have a lot of Steampunk...but would the Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Lady with the Key in her back qualify as Steampunk - and the Flying Pig ? I am also waiting on the new Steampunk Spells stamps which will be in this week...the Halloween designs might be considered that. It is really a new genre for me...I know some of you are really (KEL !) into it !! So I guess I should try it out more often.

After searching stamps, I only have two images that may work. If these are considered steampunk - I am in. The gear one isn't too big (about one inch) - should I do a couple per person?

I have had them for years can't remember where they came from - maybe club scrap?

Use a pad underneath your paper and don't "wiggle" your stamp when pressing down

I always used colored embossing powders and rubbed the anti static bag over my paper before stamping my image so that the EP only went where I wanted it to go. Then heat to melt.
I still do that for special colors of EP.

Now I follow these instructions I received from Gwynne way back whenBigGrin

First, take your stamp and ink it up with the Versamark pad; them immediately (DO NOT stamp on paper first)ink it up with your colored inkpad or black ink pad(so you are putting a double layer of ink on your stamp-the sticky Versamark and the actual ink)
Then stamp your image on your paper.
Then you pour some clear embossing powder on the stamped image and shake off excess.
Heat to melt all the EP. it's that simple.

It helps to have 2 Versamark pads. I keep the "dirty" one to use just with black ink.

Wow, lots of activity since last night!

I love all the stamp choices by all of you! and thanks for including pics as it really helps us all out.

I am adding you all to the groups, which means adding on Group 3 & 4 too.

It's kinda fun and interesting to do a stamped image swap that isn't all about Tildas or cute little people. This swap is more of a male themed swap or anything but cutesy! (and I love cutesy..but I like this swap for something refreshing)

Anyway, you all seem to understand exactly what I was hoping to see as images.

Lucinda, the smaller gears....what about if you stamped in upper left hand corner and then in lower right hand corner? That way leaves options to cut them apart or to use them like corner flourishes and still have space in center to add something? Just my thoughts to try. Oh, and might be a stamp that you could use a metallic embossing powder on. But also, metallic colored ink and clear embossing powder works too.

So funny, I went on last night, you had 2 groups and 1-5 filled in, so I figured I had plenty of time to join in. OhMyGod Imagine my surprise when I logged in. You're not kidding, there has been a lot of activity since last night, lol. Glad you opened 2 more groups.

Count me in!
