Must be a lot of people are burned out this summer...I see that many of the "veterans" have disappeared...I have a notebook with names & addys of a lot people from the past 3 years who have vanished. It is so sad that people get tired of crafting and leave, or they get weary of the frequent bickering that goes on.
Oh well, sometimes there are unpleasantries, but I have decided to hang in there and keep on swapping and having fun.

I tried opening a couple of Halloween swaps and a Pin Cushion swap recently and they failed to attract any participants. Too soon ?

I am planning on setting up a Christmas Box Swap beginning September 3rd and going through November 3rd as a mail deadline. It will be based on the Christmas Song ("Chestnusts Roasting on an Open Fire") I would like to get an idea if anyone would be interested in participating in that...if so, make a quick posting here and let me know. This would not actually obligate you to the swap..I am just looking to see if people are interested in this.

THANKS ! Have a wonderful Labor day holiday weekend next week and look for the new swaps on Tuesday 9/2

I think that is splendid idea. I have dedicated my swapping to this group only so I don't have so much to do and I can have fun instead of stress. The swaps here are so much fun and I don't want to miss them. So I had a decision to make and I definitely made the right one as I am already feeling the difference now.

I can appreciate the posts from both of these members...

I would like to be pretty specific about the box.... Personally I feel like these boxes should be inexpensive boxes that we decorate with paper cuts and embellishments. Buying a store-bought Tim Holtz "trunk" to fill is an expense that many people cannot afford. It also makes the postage higher. Shipping is too expensive these days.
My actual idea on this swap would be to concentrate on the CONTENTS of the box, and wrap the items nicely...and place them inside of a mailing box, either Priority Mail or a regular cardboard box...There would not be any expense of a wooden box, or even an elaborate Chipboard box.

Any more comments are welcome. Love I want to make as many people happy as possible if we continue with this idea. THANKS !

It sounds like it would be fun. I have never done one of these swaps before though so I have no comments.

Barb HL often has their wooden boxes half off or you can always print out one
of their printable coupons every week for 40% off so usually you can get one for
$10 or less that way.

I was at Michael's today and found some really neat boxes that were paper mache that were marked down 60%. They had all sorts of boxes that were really cool. So, I got a bunch of them just to have for projects that I do. Yes, call me a hoarder but I do use my things in a very short period of time as I can't stand the clutter. So, my point is that we could get a box and decorate it to put our items in. I like that idea. It's always fun to have a pretty container for the all the goodies we make for our partner. I like it because it's a memorabilia item to remember the swap and my partner too. Just thought I'd share.

I for one would like to concentrate on the contents of the box rather than spending money on a special box. My income is limited and I would like to get things for the box rather than the box itself. But either way I am definitely interested.

I do agree with heaven that sometimes I feel like I put more effort into what I send my partner than I receive in return. Not necessarily the money I spent versus theirs but effort on the project.

Thanks for the opportunity to give input.BigGrin

Thanks to everyone for their comments...they have all been good ones.
Maybe I can figure out a way to configure the swap so that people who want to create a special box will be sure that they will be getting a beautiful container in return. Let me think on it.

I am thinking about this and have not decided yet. But it is a stong posiblity that I may join. I liked the idea of just decorating a shoe box becuase I would rather think about putting my time and money into the items that go into the box.

my 2 cents. I have been in many of the shoebox swaps with Rhonda. always purchased a nice box. sometimes I was lucky and sometimes not. that is the chance you take when you swap. I would rather spend my time and money on the items and not on a box.

have a crafty nite

After doing this Fall Shoebox swap, I do believe I am swapped out. However, I may change my mind..lol. I would love to swap without having to worry about a box. I think it may be difficult for some people without a lot of storage room at home to store additional boxes...maybe I am wrong. At any rate, I would probably join if I do not have to worry about finding a box to put it in.

So far I am seeing a lot of people who are in my camp about the shoebox. I would also rather concentrate on the items inside the box....I also do not mind if you wrap the items and place them in a corrugated mailing box without any shoebox ("SHOWBOX") at all ....

I am thinking this will only be 12 items...not as many things to find... and half of them purchased and the other 1/2 created by your hands Wub

I want people who are on limited budgets to be able to participate. Not everyone has a lot of money they can spend on this. With my current medical bills, I am one of those people.

In my years on the boards, I have only joined in one swap, and it was just OK. But I lurk here and have always wanted to try again!

SO, what kinds of things would one put in a box? Scrapbook items? I am sitting here singing to myself trying to figure it out.

Also, if I do join, I would not be able to sign up for a couple of weeks as we will be out of town, and I doubt I will have enough time to try logging in with my phone to check in. I won't have computer access or regular internet access.

I'll check in tomorow, though. Thanks for the help!

I am a veteran shoeboxer myselfBigGrin ! Loved that swap and miss Rhonda dearly! I am glad that you have taken over. I personally would like to concentrate on the contents in the box rather than spending that money on a box and decorating it! I have recently discovered that the priority flat rate boxes are the best way to go. Shipping charges are outrageous! With that said, I am one of those crafters with limited space and I don't have space for anymore boxes! I am however interested if you allow us to swap without the box! Maybe when signing up we could state with or without an altered box! Just an ideaBigGrin !

Thanks Jess - Yes I am going to place a "No "gift box" required on this one. I would rather concnetrate on the contents as well...the boxes just add extra weight.

I am going to start signups but post all of the details in a day or so..... I need to get a few other things done first.

Look for a posting for the "Christmas Song" Box Swap.. !
