And after an 11-week furlough. Hey, it's no big deal, my agency only teaches soldiers to operate equipment safely. Who needs us during a time of war?!

I think that "non-essential" should be reevaluated! Support is essential. Good luck to you and your family!

I can relate to the furloughs, we were affected by it too. We didn't wait for them to happen we knew it could spell trouble if we waited so I went back to work.

But no "vacation here". My dh is deemed "essential personell" well at least for now. Thing is the last time it happened he was not. Still not sure when or even if he will get paid.

Don't worry too much. In the end I'm sure they will pay everyone that had to report to work as well as those that get to stay home. I know the one time when I was in this situation we all got back pay for not working. It made our commanding officer so mad that the civilians got paid for staying home that he said "never again on my watch". He declared us all as essential and during the three week shut down in 95-96 sure enough we all had to work. My husband was in the military and he was suppose to reenlist one year in October but as usual no budget was passed so "they" told him he could reenlist but he would have to wait for his reenlist bonus. I didn't trust them so he waited until the budget got passed before reenlisting. We walked out with the bonus in hand.

Yup. Went to work to do time reporting then sent home. Hope this does not last past Friday. Not getting paid is no fun.

No vacay for me! In EMS are considered essential, but we are working without pay.

We have been warned by our leadership not to expect back pay this time around. It takes an act of Congress to make that happen, apparently.

We got home from our (one and only) out-of-Texas vacation on Monday and DH went in for four hours yesterday so they could furlough him legally.

He stayed in bed until noon today, and keeps watching CNN or one of the other news channels all afternoon...

Sometimes working for the government really sucks....

I was in that furloughed group back in 95-96 was off work for like 21 days, well actually longer because the week we were to go back (i worked in Wash DC) we had an ice storm so was off that week too. We did get paid every week a portion of our pay, but this time they aren't sure if they are going to get that back pay or what, so hopefully it doesnt last to much longer.

I remember that furlough. We were supposed to have our move from Virginia to Texas scheduled the first day, and we were on pins and needles for weeks waiting for people to go back to work so we could get moved by the Navy! DH was active duty then. This time, it hits the pocketbook a little harder.
