I live in a very rural area and ordered some vinyl to start learning how to make gifts using vinyl. But I forgot to order transfer tape! I was hoping to make something today. Is there an alternative to transfer tape that I could use?

I use clear contact paper that I bought from Walmarts and I also use blue painters tape too. If you use the clear contact paper, dont leave it on your vinyl for long periods of time, it will leave a residue on the vinyl. It will not leave a residue if you transfer your vinyl to your project right away. The clear contact paper is really cheap too.

Also some things you dont really need the transfer tape for, say you are cutting out circles, you can just pick those off and put on your object at least that is what i do, im just careful not to touch the sticky side of vinyl to much, now for letters, words, images that have alot of opening in the cut i do use my transfer tape.

Thank you all for replying! We do have a WalMart but the craft department, well, stinks, but I will call and ask if they have Contact Paper. I wondered about the blue painters tape and looked all over the house yesterday because I'm sure we have some, but do you think I can find it now?

The contact paper is in the kitchen section. It is what some people use to line their cupboards with. I'm sure your walmarts will have it.

I just saw a tip on Pinterest yesterday that shows using PRESS-N-SEAL instead of transfer tape/paper. I haven't tried it yet, but it may work. It would be in the wax paper, aluminum foil, etc. section of WM.

I have used blue painter's tape and masking tape. They work great and are cheaper than transfer tape.

I just used vinyl for the first time, and I used blue painter's tape and it worked just fine.
