I am still pretty new to Cricut. I got an Expression machine for Christmas but am spending more time being frustrated than actually accomplishing anything. In all this time, I have only been able to make two things so far.

I think I am starting to get the hang of it, but the project I want to do is put a name on a plastic cup. I want the name to read vertical, but I can't figure out how to cut the letters in a vertical fashion. I did figure out how to cut them horizontal (yay...an accomplishment for me!) but instead of placing each one separately on the cup (I'll never get them nice and straight) I thought I could cut them vertically on vinyl and attach them all at once.

I have tried using the "Set Cut Area" button on my cartridge but it won't let me use paper less than 3" and then it prints four letters reading horizonally and puts the next two, also horizontally, on the next line.

Basically, what I want is one letter on each line underneath each other. Is there a way to do this? Is there a way to tell the machine that my paper is 1 1/2" x 6"??

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sandy

The easiest way to lay it all out would be to use the Cricut Craftroom software.

There is a link at the top of this page for it.

Thanks, Leanner, but the Cricut Craft Room doesn't work for me. I have tried for many, many hours on many different days to use it, but after I hook up my machine to the computer it tells me I have to update my firmware, but when I try to do that it continually fails. I have resorted to just buying cartridges and using the machine that way, even though I received a $100 gift card for digital images with my machine. Its a shame that card is going to waste.

Have you given PC a call to see if they can help you figure out what the problem is and hopefully get you up and running?

The expression can cut landscape or portrait but that really won't make your letters oriented the correct way. They will still be side to side instead of vertical. I don't think that the flip feature is going to help either.

I would agree that calling PC and seeing if they can help you get going would be a good place to start. Is it a firewall issue?

You could always cut one letter click on Line Return to do the next if you want to do it just using the machine.

I had the same issue with Craft Room and the updating. I finally figured out that I had to install just one at a time. There were two boxes checked in the update screen. Uncheck one of the boxes and then install afterwards go back and update again and the second one will then install. It should work after that.

When I first tried to install the Craftroom I had similar problems. I then called Customer Support and they took the time to help me and I haven't had any issues since then. Give them a call, and have fun using your $100 gift card. Happy shopping!
