I have been familiarizing myself with Design Space and eagerly watching YouTube videos in anticipation of getting my Explore from HSN in March. I can not seem to get text to attach to a cut file. Here is what I am doing...can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

For simple example...I want to write an initial on a circle that will be cut out...here is what I am doing...

1...insert a circle image
2...open a text box and type a letter...position it on the circle
3...go to "Layers" ...click the eye...change from cut to write
4...draw a box to select both the letter and the circle (I have also tried doing this by choosing "select all")

Here is where things go wrong...according to all I have read/watched...I should be able to select "attach" under layers...but I am not given that choice...I am given the option to weld or contour...but attach is not "active" (I have also tried this by right clicking the box...but again...I can not choose attach).

What am I doing wrong?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Do you have your EXPLORE turned on and the PEN in the holder? I think there is only a pen detected in layers in this way. I might be wrong.

I'm just guessing, but do you need to ungroup first? I don't know, cuz I haven't tried that feature yet.

you are not given the choice to attach because either your text or your image or both have a shadow or more than one layer. That is the only reason you can not attach.

Insert your image.
Ungroup your image.
Add text.
ungroup text if needed.
select text.
push shift key on computer then click on image while holding shift.
click attach in the edit panel.

Thank you Sherrie & Melody. Ungrouping was the step I was missing. I thought hiding unwanted layers worked to isolate what I wanted to write on...but it doesn't...I need to start a little notebook so I don't forget! BigGrin
