This has probably been asked and answered, but I was wondering about the files that so many people have shared on various sites that they have created. I see many Disney files, comic strip files, etc. that I was wondering about copyright. If I use them for personal use, is it ok? What about if I want to, for example, make sippy cups, etc. to sell at a craft fair with these images on them, is it a violation?

You would not have a right to sell them and could possibly get in trouble. That said, folks at our local craft fairs frequently sell stuff with licensed images and logos that I am certain they do not have a right to sell. So I guess it all boils down to which rules you are willing to ignore and how worried you are about getting caught.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that it was illegal. I guess I would just not want to take the chance. We are thinking of doing a fundraising craft fair for a young child and it would not be good if I got into trouble. Never know when a copyright attorney could be just walking through. Guess I will stick to generic images. Enough other great files to choose from!

Copyright goes past just disney and team logos. Any files you buy (even freebies stores have) are still copyrighted and have their own TOU (terms of use) so make sure you read those carefully if you have the rights to sell products made with those images.

Any file, shape or image made by someone other than yourself has a copyright. It would be illegal & against the copyright to sell the image. Personal use is usually ok {in most circumstances}.

Sadly a lot of people are sharing copyright svg files & then asking for donations {on their blogs} in facebook groups.... I think that's the same as selling the files. It's morally & legally so wrong. If they get caught up with they will be in violation of the copyright laws. Glad it's not me.

I just can't believe all the disney files flying around out there & these people are getting paid for them.

I know, Janis. I am seeing them all over, too. Seems I remember when the Cake machine first came out there was a lot of discussion about those who make & sell cakes using licensed images. Think when I make things to sell I will just stick to generic things like initials. Thinking that things could get a little messy before too long.

One of my favourite places to purchase royalty free images is DoverPictura - http://www.doverpictura.com/

The images are royalty free. There is a limit to how many images you can use in a publication before you need to get permission, but I think that is 10 or so. You may see some of the images that artists have added there own touches to and then sell on etsy (because the images are royalty free).

You'll need Inkscape so you can turn into layers and svg files. I have the SNC. I just print and cut with my machine.

Some artists do sell licenses for their svgs so you can use and sell, but there are usually some limitations, i.e. cannot sell as an svg, etc.

It helps to do some exploring on the artists site to see what kind of rights you have to an svg.

Some shapes cannot be copyrighted, i.e. plain old circles and squares, etc, but the design that goes inside might be.

Hello,
If you refer to the angel agreement on cricut.com. It will help clarify some of your questions. :)

Cricut Tamara :)

Provo Craft has a very generous angel policy.
