Hi all! I'm looking for the best brand of vinyl that actually stays stuck to canvas. I've used the Cricut brand for another vinyl project and the vinyl would not stay put. Need some good, sticky vinyl suggestions. Also, what prep have you done on your canvas to allow for better contact with the vinyl?

I have heard that you can use outdoor vinyl for the canvas. Also after you paint the canvas, people put a coat of modge podge over the canvas to let the vinyl stick on to it. Hope this helps.

I use outdoor vinyl. I make sure I purchase canvases that are primed with guesso. I've tried:

1) Put a coat of mod podge on the canvas, before applying vinyl. Add a coat of mod podge after adhering vinyl.

2) Primed canvas with guesso (before I knew it already came that way), then added vinyl

3) Paint the canvas with acrylic paint then add vinyl.

I can't say that one worked better than the other. Honestly, they all were hard to get the vinyl from contact paper onto the canvas. All I can suggest is adding that extra layer of mod podge after you get the vinyl on there. Also, place a hard cover book under your canvas so it's easier to burnish the vinyl. Most of the time as I'm pulling the contact paper up, I am pushing the vinyl onto the canvas.

Good luck!

Thank you! I used the mod podge before and after and I like the results!

I had the same issue with no success! I was wanting to put vinyl down to have kids paint on a canvas and then lift the vinyl afterward. Let me know if you do ever figure anything out!
