I went in today to see if they had the new German carbide blades for my Explore. I asked at the cash desk as I could only see the deep cut blade. I was told that as the normal blades fit the Explore, they will not be stocking the new one! Grrr!!!!!!!! Now, where do I get a new blade? It will cost me almost the price of the blade for shipping if I get from here.

I just checked on Cricut.com. The blade is $12.99. Shipping? a whapping $25.43!! Cursing Mad I don't think so!!!!!

Well, that's ridiculous. Have you tried ebay? Hopefully someone ships to Canada and doesn't charge more than the actual item.Blink

I'm wondering if our Michael's is going to get them either. When I order from here I put a bigger order in (over 50.00) and being I have the Cricut Circle membership I get the free shipping. I'm not sure if there would be any on ebay or if they would be able to ship to Canada.
Good luck on your search.BigGrin

14.99 on ebay, free ship, ships worldwide. (a little pricey still) I haven't seen any at local stores. Places where they should go...but no blades.

Not really anything PC can do if the vendors aren't buying the new blades until they sell their current inventory of old blades. Huh

Maybe contact Ms and/or Js customer service and let them know how much you want the item.

I quite agree, Scrapalette. Not blaming PC, blaming Michaels!! PC have no control what stores stock. Just so annoyed with Michaels attitude, though.

Does the new blade also fit the Expression 2 - or just the Explore?

I saw someone post the other day they used the newer blade in their older machine....and it worked beautifully!

I have never seen the blades being sold at the big box stores, as yet, in Central Illinois. When I'm up north (Chicago area) over the next few days, I might take time to check some of the strip malls (where the crafts stores are located) to see if they are more eradily available in the more populated areas. I can also check in Bloomington IL.

I'm reluctant to do any business over the internet (I have bought some things from PC over the years, but I'm very reluctant to do so). I'm getting ready to "jump in" and buy MORE THAN ONE of them from PC!

I think it's rather sad that PC doesn't promote these "newer blades" to the big box stores. They just don't know the difference and they don't need to know until someone tells (PC) and makes their solid case why these newer blades are better.

Of course, if the first blades are much cheaper (they're not that much cheaper, as far as I can tell), then there will always be those who don't feel they need the more expensive ones. BUT, if the newer blades last longer than my older blades (which, for me, have lasted a very long time and served my machines well), then who wouldn't rather have a newer, more precision-type cutting blade, than an older style?

There is a substantial price difference on Amazon (US) right now. Here's a price history of the old and new blades:

2 old blades
1 new blade

The average historical price is $6 (currently $7.49) for *2* old blades, versus $12.99 for *1* new blade, so the old blades are roughly a quarter the price. Both items qualify for free shipping with a total purchase of $35 (or with Amazon Prime). The price of the old blade has varied quite a bit.

4x seems like a lot of ground to make up. I have not used both types of blades. I could imagine the newer blade being worth it if cut harder materials (and I needed to cut those materials), or if it lasted several times longer. For those who have tried both, is that the case?

One feature I thought would be cool to have is an odometer that would tell you how far your blade has cut. After using a few blades, you'd have a good idea of when your blade needs replacing. Maybe you could set an alert that would tell you when you reached a certain distance. And it might help Provo Craft sell more blades.
