I've used the Wilton Sugar sheets before but I have never used fondant to overlay a cake. Since I wanted a hot pink cake for my daughter's party, I needed to give it a try. The colors of her party were hot pink and black (and polka dots). Oh, she didn't know she was having a surprise party and was asking for a cookie monster cake to have a small party with friends...hence the cookie monster cake attempt in the background... :.)

Thanks for letting my share (I'm trying to overcome my shyness especially with all the other amazing creations from others so I wanted to share even though it's not perfect).

You did a great job! Overlaying with fondant sure isn't as easy as it looks. I did it also for the first time on Friday and had some pleating at the bottom. Your cake is very pretty!

Just wanted to let you know that when I took the fondant class, the teacher told us to pick up the bottom edge of the fondant, kindof like the edge of a blouse (it's called Blousiing) raise it up a little, and smooth it down. Did you frost the cake with Buttercream frosting underneath before you covered with the fondant?

I did frost with buttercream. Thanks for the "blousing" tip. I'll have to give that a try.

Thanks for the tip! Now I want to make another cake to practice. Yep, I had frosting underneath so it was at least tasty. :.)

Very lovely cake, and I wish we could share slices over the internet.
