I remember back 4 or 5 years ago on the old msg board there could be 2,000 members on at one time...the posts were full of projects and ideas....now we avg about 200 members on the entire board at any given time. I miss the old board and the excitement that was displayed over the Cricut products.

I agree & have said this many times about how I miss the old board....This one is so darn slowwwwwwwww & not much going on. Of couse back when I started the Cricuts were brand new on the market & it was all more exciting in that aspect.
We were all learning & helping each other.....

that is one of my many reasons for only lurking now and then, signing in rarely to reply to threads or to say hi to some one from the old boards
seems one has to join the circle to find the old gang, etc
I ck out you tube videos for ideas now

It always makes me scratch my head and think "huh" when posts about the old board pop up and then the people that reply all say they don't get on much because nothing is happening. Well, if everyone has that attitude, nothing is ever gonna happen!

However, I think the "chat" forum is dead for many reasons. Mainly, those people who are crafting and posting their projects are posting them in the Craft forums and not in Cricut Chat. But even a lot of them are no longer taking the time to post even in the Craft forums because no one comments. The other thing that really hurt Cricut Chat is that, for a while, everyone who enjoyed using their Cricut was attacked by some of those who were mad at PC for various reasons. If anyone posted a "happy" comment, they were immediately called stupid or crazy or blind for continuing to use a cart based system. And if anyone posted on an "unhappy" thread, they were accused of negating the OP's feelings or complaints.

Also, the "numbers" on the old board were very misleading as people were never logged out. So people were showing as being online for weeks and weeks when they weren't.

The forums have always been here for crafters to use. We just have to use them!

I am pretty much with scrapalette, but I will put it bluntly.

TOO MUCH NEGATIVITY.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.

I still enjoy the boards, and I take my advise. I stay postive.

I love my Cricut products, and I use them proudly.

Nobody is perfect, certainly not me, and yes, that does include PC. I just hope things can turn around for them in a positive manner.

Did I say I love my Cricut products??? I am working on 200 wedding invitations and I couldn't have made them without my Gypsy and my Expressions.

Excuse me? Scrapalette was just voicing her thoughts on why the board is changed...your post is an attack...what on earth did I say that was negative? I miss the old board, the amount of project posts, the excitement over the cricut product...how is that negative? I really resent it when I express my feelings and someone says "If you can't say something nice, dont say anything" I have as much right as anyone else to say something on this board and I truly can not see what I said that is negative.

I don't think she was attacking you, GrammyCris! I think she was just expressing her feelings as to why the board is as it is. Nothing negative in your post at all. I agree with Scrapalette, if we want the board back to the way it was, it is up to us to make it so (Sorry, Captain Pickard!!!) We need to post, not just browse!BigGrin BigGrin

Oh Grammy, no, no no. You didn't say ANYTHING negative. I think you were misunderstanding what my intentions were.

Your post is correct. The board HAVE slowed way down. My feeling is that too many people have posted too many negative things, and people got tired of coming to a place that used to fun, and somehow turned in to a place to gripe.

Scrapalette talked about people being attacked. She is right, which is what I called negativity.

I apologize if my post offended you. Not my intentions at all.

I am so sorry that I misunderstood you and took it personally....I tried so hard to figure out how my msg was negative. Thank you so much for your very kind PM and for the words here on the board. Sometimes it is so hard to read the meaning behind words because we can't hear them being said. I agree with your post now that I understand how it was said....forgive my not getting it the first time around?

Scrapalette is correct in saying that the numbers are misleading. I never had to sign in on the old board and stayed signed in even though I never popped in.

Paper crafting just like any other craft has it's ebbs and flows. I'm seeing a new interest in knitting and crochet and they were not popular for a while. Same with tole painting, use to see tons of magazines on that and now I have trouble finding some of those on the mag stands.

The only people that can make a community vibrant are it's members. Some will come and some will go, but the community can become very vibrant if we so choose.

By the way, I love my bugs.BigGrin

I have said the same thing- on the old board - it would be brimming with people, talking crafting Cricut and others, talking about projects, but long before negativity stepped in , Cricut started changes in the way things were being handled- that included the board, then yes we must change the MB, not for the better except the thanks button. Along with problems came frustration, and as with alot of oards these days came people who like to stir things up. But all in all I was still getting good advice and liked the chat here. I still do but Pc changed again along the way, dropped many of the people who were helpful- it is now a whole other place. I do miss all the older helpful posts- too bad we can't access them. I miss many of the PC people who popped in to inform us, help us. I like many who are here, but admit it compared to what it was a very short time ago- its a small town now. This has been one of favorite places to come for ideas, help and just fun. I'll stick it out too. But would it hurt to give us our old board back? BJR.

I am so glad all of that got straightened out.

I originally came to this board to get help and answers to my questions and found a bonus when I found lots of ideas shared by lots of creative people.

I now try to answer questions and help out whenever possible because I believe in giving back.

Lets all try to comment more, use that thank button more and practice a little bit of kindness.

Happy crafting

Good idea....Scrapalette and others are right, we are the only ones that can make it active again! Let's make a new years resolution to make X amount of positive comments every day and to post X amount of finished projects each week/month.....Let's forget that PC irks us sometimes and just enjoy crafting and friendship again! What say?

Things have definetly changed around here. I always go first to Card forum because that is what I mostly make and when I first started on here in 2009, it would take me 1-1 1/2 hours to go through the projects, there were 4-5 pages of new posts every day. Now there are only a few new posts on page one. The old board was much more inspiring. And back then everyone put their projects in their posts, but today either you have to download the photos (which I won't do) or people are sending you to their blogs (which I rarely do either, I think it's ok to send you to their blog for additional information but not to see the project). But I am still here every night and will continue to do so.

My 2 cents worth here is....the reason this board has few on it is because PC split us up.

But I rather disliked the old board because it was too big and hard to find things.

As for the negativity that creeps in...well it is hard to make yourself clearly understood with just words and I do understand how one can get frustrated with their machine. But this site is for helping each other fix our frustrations and show our creations. Am I right?

This really isn't true; it's not that exciting over there, either. If you put the two MBs back together, it would still NO WAY EQUAL what used to be here.

I don't think it's that it's old....PC tried to change too many things too fast and never had any of their DUCKS IN A ROW....as far as I'm concerned. They could get it back, if they would only get their ACT TOGETHER!!! However, I don't think they need to and I don't think they will (at least not the way we all think they should).

I agree with the ones who are talking about being positive & if you can't say something positive or nice, then keep it to yourself. Most of us don't like the complaining & bashing of the company. It doesn't help anything, just looks bad & sounds bad.

If one has a complaint I think they should send it directlt to the company via e-mail or other means, but not through these boards that are meant for learning & having fun, sharing with our fellow crafters etc.

So if someone wants to call me a "cheerleader" they can & I'd be proud to be a cheerleader LOL.

It's blogs I tells ya, blogs!!!LOL Since people started blogs, they seem to post their creations on them rather than on here. I'm not a "blogger" and only go to certain ones that I am interested in, like paperie in bloom (love her flowers!). Now, if bloggers could post photos of their projects on here and maybe the instructions on their blogs.......Cool

So true, Canadian Rose. I'll go to a blog if I like a project posted here, BUT I'm turned off by those who don't post a pic and just direct me to their blog.
I say,"Show me what you've got and I'll decide if I want to click that link!" Wink

Forgive me in advance for not reading every reply but I wanted to post before I forgot what I was going to say. Cool

I tend to stay on the RAK's and Swaps board because I got to know people over there during the year that I have been on the boards. My routine when I first started was to come here and say hello, etc. Then I would head over to the Product Reviews and deals, I was new and always looking for a bargain. Then I would go to the RAKs and Swaps to check in on the threads I was participating in. I tried the Challenge thread but did not feel "like it was for me. The ladies were nice but I could not keep up with the pace!

Then the this board got "negative" and people would attack you for having an opinion that was different from their opinion. I am VERY opinionated and felt that it was wrong for people to post about other cutters on the Cricut MB. This opinion was not well received, live and learn, now I stay away from those threads. But I also moved away from checking in here. I am doing this more often now because I missed the general talking and would like to "meet" and talk to more ladies here.

So, all that being said there is a possibility that the traffic is slower because this board is tracking real time but I think MBs are taking a hit due to the other social media out there. It is really easy to jump on FB and see your groups right on your page, Pinterest is a huge time eater for a lot of us. LOL One of my favorite MBs closed about 6 months ago and moved everything to FB groups. I think some people are feeling MBs are a thing of the past.

I pray that Cricut does not go this route. I love the MB and I prefer it over FB.

I too miss the old board, it moved extremely fast and was hard to keep up and always something new to see and get inspired with.

Unfortunately things change and people move on. It is very hard to come on here and only speak of PC things, there are so many different crafts we all get involved with and they require components of many different companies to complete. There are so many more places where you can go and discuss any product you use with no backlash.

It started going downhill long before any of us realized it. Then the infighting over the 3rd party software took a hug toll along. It didnt help that at the same time the server of the old MB just didnt suit the traffic on the board and become sooooo painfully slow without a fix for far far to long. Then they got the new server and everything moved here and some didnt like the set up. Then of course the Circle was developed and some people felt excluded an angry and some moved onto the circle and never looked back. Now it seems the issue of the day is that PC has kinda put a noose around our necks and took the attitude of its our way or the highway and truely limited what some want to do here or say here. They ruined the circle and seem to relish in pushing loyal customers the way side.

That is just a few of the issues that have gone on over the years and with each one PC lost more and more loyal customers on the MB. We have always been a very small portion of their customer base on the boards and I really dont think they care one way or the other about this board, it certainly stopped being their way to attract new customers years ago. Now we are just a hassle.

This of course is just my opinion and not meant in a negative way, there is just not alot of other ways to explain why we lost the wonderful board we used to have.

I only started coming here last february. I have gotten alot of useful information, and oddly, some of that has been gleaned from what others would call "negativity". Frankly I don't mind reading posts about something that has upset alot of users. In fact, many times I can learn from their mistakes ( example...turn off my antivirus program before attempting to update by Gypsy).

I also don't mind reading posts where clearly there is an issue and the member needs to vent somewhere. God knows, there are many examples of PC turning a blind eye and deaf ear to some of the problems their products have.

So while it's wonderful to have a nice happy community, it's also ok in my opinion to vent your frustration - if anyone is willing to listen.
That's just sort of the way life in general is, wouldn't you agree? Some days you're the dog, some days you're the hydrant.

Let's see...

Some people quit posting projects when they realized that cricut claimed ownership to any ideas posted here.

then, there's the issue of any problem that is mentioned is immediately poo-pooed and someone jumps on us to tell us how foolish we are not to totally love every little aspect of planet cricut

And, there is actually more activity, but some of it just *poof* disappears!

It WAS a busy, fun board, loaded with helpful people and great ideas.
