I have an idea to make my own collage of words and put it in a frame for my parents for an anniversary gift. The idea seems great in my head but I am realizing it is hard to get out.

I think my first step is to get an idea of what size frame. I have tons of words I would like to use.
Next step is get the words cut out. I am wanting to use a few different fonts for this collage. Is there a cartridge that you can have your own words-cursive that are connected?

Third step would be arraging them in the frame on some fancy paper.

Does this sound correct? Any other tips or ideas?

There are many many great fonts out there. If you go to the shopping section here and click on cartridges there is a section for font cartridges. Other carts have fonts also.

Have you tried Cricut Craft Room (CCR)?
It is a free Cricut program where you can weld any letters together to make words.
(And do lots of other things also)
You can design with any cartridge listed there BUT you need to own the cartridge to make any cuts from it.
There is also a list of font cartridges in CCR.

Hope this helps.
