You can use these for anything, and they are oh so fun!! Really!

Junk Journal = an expression of you and your creativity, likes, dislikes, rants and raves. . It’s really an extension of a diary, or writing journal, but in mixed media.

Simple journals filled with old and new papers....ledger paper, graph paper, sheet music....and so much more. These are similar to SMASH books but more fun.

Here are some ideas what you can use these for
Swaps - to keep track of all your swap details
Baby one for all things do with the baby
Child - to include all the funny things they say and put in those little drawings they make
Goals - Maybe weight loss or life goals, etc
Everyday/General - to include anything and everything
Inspiration - to add things that inspire you
Maybe you like to draw or doodle - these are perfect for that as well
Gratitude junk journal - to write about things you are grateful for
Travel, Road book, destinations - put in fun things from your trips
Quotes or things you love
Flower Gardening details

Ideas for the journal
a Composition Notebook,
an old book
or make your own from whatever

If making your own -
Sizing will be up to you and the person you are creating the journal for.
Covers must be made of cardboard thickness, and bound in some way. Ideas for binding the book -Cinch/Bind it all, the bigger binder rings, etc

Ideas to include in the journal - sheets of paper; plain, lined, and or graph. Tags, envelopes, flaps, paper bags, ephemera, die cuts, fabric, lace, trims, vellum, cards, chipboard, pages from old books, acetate, stamped quotes and/or images, tab dividers, washi tape, paint chip cards, playing card etc.. (Its a good way to use things from your stash and "junk" from around the house.)

You can use anything! That is why they are called junk journals. Use things that may not be your most common things. Think outside the box and have fun creating!!

Click Here to see pictures from our previous junk journal swap

Here are some examples of junk journals, check out Pinterest and Youtube for even more ideas:

http://creativecafegirl.blogspot.com/2012/07/vintage-junk-journals.html

http://scrapinitsweetsimple.blogspot.com/2011/09/simply-smashing-junk-journal-swap.html

You must check in weekly. Post pictures when you receive your journal. Must be mailed by June 8, 2013 and post the Delivery Confirmation on here. This gives plenty of time to get this completed!

**NOTE** I am using Kelley's rules for this swap! Please read them HERE.

4. Do you prefer a composition notebook Journal, old book or another size?

I would like to join but I had a couple of questions before I committed. How many pages do we make if a partner ask us to make one? How many pages do we decorate if our partner ask for a notebook/journal?

Thank you! I just want to make sure I do it right if I decide to join. Thank you!

Good questions Lori. There really is no set amount of pages when making one. Just add in what you think makes a nice journal. Every page does not and should not be decorated. There is no right or wrong way.

Lets see, just for an example, one I received last time has approx. 30 pages total counting covers. One page is just an embossed bingo card, one is a vellum sheet with a quote at the top, one is just a giant flash card, one page is just an old paper cd case that has been embossed. Another page is just a plain piece of paper that has a decorative strip at the bottom to make a pocket that holds tags and the backside just has a sticker on it. Simple pages. There is probably half my book that are just plain patterned paper not even decorated what so ever, and some that is just plain writing paper, graph paper, etc. We want to leave plenty of spaces to write and add in some of our own things as well. Since that is the purpose of a journal.

Same thing with a compositon notebook. No set amount of pages to decorate. Probably will feel like your decorating "more" pages but they don't need a lot on them to be decorated. a stamp, or some lace going down the edge, make a pocket for the page with some tags, add a diecut, border or washi tape to a page. Staple a couple pages together for a thicker piece. Add a pattern paper over top of the notebook paper, glue a few pages together and add a doily over the edge. Leave small chunks of paper just plain - All great ways to do it.

Hopefully I answered your questions some. If not maybe some of the other girls who have done these will put in their thoughts. I will be gone today and will check back tomorrow.

Hopefully you decide to join, they are fun and really aren't a lot work. BigGrin

Here is a picture of one. I made a little cleaner/less grungy than a couple of the others I made. My partner had requested something for their trip to Hawaii. I have a tendency to make them 6 x 9 so you can get 2 pages and 2 3 x 6 tags out of each sheet without waste. I also do pockets 6 x 6 to get two pockets per page and 4 x 6 envelope pockets to get 3 per page. But I agree with scrappy dew you can make them any size there is no right or wrong way.
http://addicted2paper.bl...m/2012/05/post-316.html

Here is a linkto the one ScrappyDew made me that I love and use to this day (It was on the last page of this thread) she made 6 x 12....so love this.

http://www.cricut.com/fo...swap---Completed.aspx?=

There are also tons of you tube videos on them too which I watched intensely at first.

I have a very busy Spring and don't want to commit to something that I could not

I love this idea and would like to join.
I like everything-my favorite color is pink. I am in to TH and Martha Stewart right now.
I would like to use this journal to keep track of my swaps. My name on the front would be good too.
A spiral or ringed journal would be nice so that I can lay it down flat.
For size- about the size of a composition book.
I don't need tabs.
That's all I can think of.
I can't wait to get a partner.

I would love to do this. I bought my bind it all 3 years ago and tried it a couple of times. Had a hard time punching out the holes. Then I put it up. It stayed up for the rest of the three years. I made an album for an Easter basket swap and fell in love with it. I just made a mini album for my grandson 1 st birthday party April 3. Now to make one for my granddaughters 1 st birthday April 21. This sound fun.
I'll answer the question tomorrow having a hard time with this pad to cut and paste. Love BigGrin

If done 5 other swaps with octoberbeauty. And they were so much fun. Any one else thinking about this should jump in an play too. There is so many videos to help. You know the old saying so many ideas so many people in my way. Stay out of my craft room I'm in a creative mood. Lol. I should make a sign and hang it my craft room door. LolLOL LOL LOL

I'm so glad you joined too and that you are having fun already!! You should make a craft sign for your door, maybe that will keep some people out of your way! Lol Flapper BigGrin

Now here is a group question - I've previously done this swap with different partners meaning the person whom you are creating for is NOT who is creating your journal. Is this way fine? or do you all prefer it to be where you create for the person who is creating for you, like most the other swaps on here?? Let me know your thoughts on this.
