Every time I go to load my cutting mat into the machine, it makes a studdering sound and won't load- like it doesn't fit in the roller slot or something. I am a newbie and just got my Cricut cutter in the mail today. It worked the first few times just fine but now it studders when loading the mat. Does anybody know what the problem is here or how to fix it?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Are you using the mat that came with the machine?

Sometimes the mat that came in the box is curled from being in the box and is hard to load.

I have the original Expression and the following works for me.

If the mat doesn't load when you press "load mat", then press "unload Mat" and then try to load the mat again.

I also have had this happen with my Expression 2 and by giving the mat a little push got it to work.

Make sure that the mat is straight and give it a little push when you press the "load mat" button. It should load then. You can also turn the mat around and use the other end. It doesn't always have to have the arrow pointing into the machine to use it.

If this doesn't work then try using a new mat. Make sure the new mat works in your machine.

You also may need to update your Expression 2.

You update by downloading Cricut sync http://www.cricut.com/home/support/cricut-sync to your computer. Then hookup you Expression 2 to your computer with an a/b, printer cable. It's the same cord to hookup the printer to the computer.
Click on Cricut sync to run.

If these suggestions don't work you can always contact PC and they can help.

I do what AuntieKLE does....when I hold the mat, I hold it in the center (the part of the mat closest to you) and exert a little pressure forward as I hit "LOAD MAT" (on my Expression and my MINI...don't know how you do this on the other machines). I make sure it isn't too close to the right guide and/or the left side of the machine. AGAIN, as we have both said, PUSH/PRESS the mat under the rollers and forward as you hit "LOAD MAT".

I, too, hope this helps you.

Also make sure you have the mat under the little plastic guides on both sides of the machine. I, too, do the "exerting pressure" thing when loading my mat. If none of our suggestions work, be sure to call ProvoCraft. Let us know the outcome. HTH. GG

check to see if the blade housing is hitting the rubber roller if so you will have re position the rubber roller so it doesn't hit the housing as this will make the housing shutter :(
