Just read it on another message board and wondered if it is true. I hope not as I can't afford to stockpile.

I would hope not. It is about the only machine they have that will cut bigger than 8 inches. Unless... The rumored new machine is similar to the Mini but a 12x12 cutter. Wink

Thanks for replying Jooniper. I am purely speculating but I would guess that eventually they will just do digital cartridges and the machines will have to be hooked to the computer like the mini. I have an ancient desk top computer so I haven't even tried CCR.

Craft-E-Corner posted it on their facebook page. It says ..

Quote:
Today they let us know that they are officially phasing out the original Cricut Expression machine... the Expression 2 (E2) will be the only Expression manufactured here on out.

Craft-e-Corner Facebook page

There was something mention (here, I believe) of a new machine coming out sometime.

Thanks for the link. I read the craft-e-corner statement on FB and I'm up in the air on this one Unsure. I love my E. I had the E2 had a few problems with it and finally returned it to PC and requested an E which they sent me. I also have a mini and I'm very happy using CCR. IMHO it is a wonderful software program, perfect for me. What is an issue is---having to buy the E2 or any other cutting machine in the future. I just can't afford it.

Oh well, what will be will be.

Best, Mary R.

I do LOVE my E2, but it's still sad.
At the same time, I'm just so excited to see what kind of new machine they are going to introduce!

What??

The times, they are a changin'

Not too happy about it, but maybe my trusty pink E will hang in there.....my G seems to be doing just fine.

I was thinking the other night (as I sat in my craftroom playing with my G) how much I really LOVE having a stand alone product, and not having to sit at a desk. I was all curled up on my little sofa, playing away. Hard to curl up on my desk chair.

Oh well, we will see what we will see.

My I-Pod touch can't update to the new apps, but still works great for books on tape and actually playing music (go figure).....

Hoping to hold on to the old (and reliable) tech as long as I can!!

Thanks for the update.

So sad. Mellow but!! Maybe the rumored machine will be something like the Expression.

I did want the E2 when it first came out, I'm a sucker for touch screens, but Hubby talked me out of it since I already have the original E. Then he bought me a Mini 6 months later because I usually just make cards.

It would not surprise me that PC will move more and more towards the digital and get away from actual carts. There are already many carts that are digital only (CCR exclusives). One advantage to the company would be our selling linked carts as selling used digital data is not easy. Another would be getting rid of the extra cost of producing plastic carts, printing books and overlays, not to mention the green thing. I know many of use will not like that, but technology does not stand still for us. It took me a few years to finally dump my analog cell phone and update to digital.

A new machine would have to be really awesome in order for me to purchase it. I have a mini and original (unboxed) and a competitor. Also, since my internet can cut off and on really quickly, CCR is not the program of my choice. I do use it sometimes to get the free mini and weekly cuts, but I mostly use my gypsy. IF I did get a new one, it might be something like the Brother print/scan/cut that is coming out soon, but not a 12 by 12 mini.

I hadn't heard about this. I don't understand why they would discontinue the one machine they've had the least problem and complaint about. I have all the machines except the mini. My Expression is the one I love, the rest I only tolerate and rarely use.

Well, if and when they do go all digital I'll not be a customer for Cricut any more. I certainly hope they don't do that though. But I guess I'd better be prepared in case they do! Guess then I'll just stick with my Cuttlebug, which I love too.

Guess only time will tell.

I was just shopping the other day with my sister for an Ipod. She has a Mac with Tiger operating system. We were told that the new Ipods will not sync with the older Mac operating systems, including Tiger. Her choice was to upgrade her operating system or get a new Mac. Her mac is upgradable to the current OS, but if she doesn't do it, she may not be able to upgrade when a newer OS comes out. I have a really old Ipod I use with ITunes on Windows 7. If I return that to the factory setting, she could use that.

Go figure. We are suppose to be green, but companies talk a big talk, but when it comes to $$$, they are standing still on the green issue.

The Expression is being CLOSED OUT. PC will no longer sell any of them to their wholesale customers...they said that there are "NO MORE IN THE WAREHOUSE" . This is not true because they are dumping them online and on Ebay right now...but that way PC gets to keep all the profits for themselves. Retailers will not be getting any more. They will sell what they have in stock before the new machine comes in this Fall.
They are not yet releasing details on the new machine. One can only guess it is all DIGITAL.
If you love your Expression like I love mine, you might want to get a back-up machine.
I hate using CCR and Gypsy personally. I have a great struggle with my computer and my E2 working nicely together.

It is - what it is. PC holds the keys to the gate. They are changing things.

Well, now I'm convinced. I have a back-up Expression but seriously want a new one. The one year guarantee is what I want. I'm going to sell my never used Gypsy and my used once Imagine and get one.

I do not design pages and such so CCR is not something for me. I never used the gypsy so I cannot see me using CCR. I like to cut my pieces as I go and put things together. Since I am just starting out with Scrapbooking after my 10 or so years with making cards I just like to do it that way.

Anyone interested in a Gypsy????

I do not believe that PC will go to complete digital their products are not popular just in the US; while they may be discontinuing the original expression because they have the E2 and coming out with a new machine - I do not really think they will completely abandon cartridges or the option for them.

I love my Expression and all my carts! In fact I just bought a back up Expression in case my old one wears out. If this is true, I'm glad I did! I only hope that PC will continue to service the Expression after they quit selling them.

Does it make sense to take something that is so popular and consistently works and phase it out I am so glad I have serveral E's got them as cheap as $50 new on ebay so stocked up. Cant be without my E's. I don't want to be hooked up to a computer did that for too many years.

I do not believe that they are getting rid of cartridges. Why would they have gone to the trouble to redesign cases and books and come up with the universal overlay if carts were going away? In fact, it seems to me that they've released a lot of new carts lately.

I can't really comment on the discontinue of the E. I have an E2 and two Minis. I love both, find both to be easy to use and I LOVE CCR. Technology changes and I'm looking forward to seeing what the next machine will be like. I don't blame you for planning a backup, but maybe you will love the upcoming machine. I do want to say that I live in an area where Internet is fast and I really don't have problems with CCR. My opinion might be different if my Internet was unreliable.

They are dumping the Pink Expressions for sure, but I have been trying to find a regular Expression that wasn't refurbished and they are few and far between. I don't think PC has manufactured any for quite some time. That's my guess.

I have the baby bug and 1 original "E". While I've only plugged in the Baby 2 years ago to update it to use with a no longer available software, I think I shall be finally making the jump to Cameo. I've rarely used any of my carts or gypsy in forever anyway, only my own designed files. So this will just be my final push to now replace my machines. I was holding out because my machines do work and I don't want to be stuck should my perfectly working (besides wonky circle problem that NEVER got fixed) Expression die on me. Also didn't want 2 paperweights sucking up much needed room in my newly designed craftroom while a new brand machine sits sparkling on my desk as I know selling the 2 cricuts & gypsy wouldn't amount to much.....

I've been lucky that the Gypsy (which hasn't been turned on for months and months in between) has yet to get the screen of death due to non use. Every time I do check it, it's still fires up.. but again, I can't even remember the last time I actually hooked it up to my E.

Seems to me the E was the machine with least amount of problems, but totally get that it's considered old technology now. I doubt physical carts are going away totally, but become selective availability to what digital form will fully offer. However, I see the new machine NOT having a "usable" cart slot... just a place to put the cart in to LINK IT directly to CCR or even NO slot and just a USB cable adapter to recognize the cart for linking. So in essence be 100% digital & must be connected to PC, but still have the ability to purchase actual carts instead of forced to purchase digital only....

I would totally be on board with all the new digital stuff IF the design program (CCR) was downloadable/installable. I tried CCR at a friend's house and was not at all impressed. I'm pretty handy with a computer (PC products aside) and use MTC, SCAL, and eCAL. Using CCR online was irritating.

I have started using my old Expression and Gypsy again recently (in fact, I'm waiting for CricutSync to update as I type this) and am really enjoying these "vintage" machines. They allow me to design and cut anywhere. I take them to school and can put them on any desk and get to work. I don't have to make sure I'm near an internet source, which is a huge plus since we're in an old building.

If we could install CCR on our own computers and not be tied to being online and at the whims of PC's servers, I'd jump at the chance to use all the new digital files and machines. I any case, I hope my Gypsy lasts forever, since I like it so much more than designing online. Honestly, I'd buy a new Gypsy before I'd voluntarily use an online program like CCR. I sure wouldn't mind if PC came out with a G that had a larger screen.
