Hi Everyone!

It's been a long time since I've been here. I hope you're all doing well.

I was reading an advertisement somewhere (email or crafting mag) that mentioned something about a universal overlay. Could someone explain to me how this will work with all the different cartridges? What I was reading didn't go into full detail and, of course, I can't find it again.

Thank you for the help.

It is simply an overlay that has numbers on the keys instead of images. It is designed to work with the new cartridges because they are no longer including an overlay with each cartridge.

The images in the handbook are now numbered so you simply press the number that corresponds to the image you want to cut. It's faster than having to hunt on the keypad for the tiny image or re-number your handbook and count down and over.

The universal overlay will not work with old cartridges. Any Cartridge made before August 1st will still need the overlay that came with each cartrdige. The carts that are now in the small boxes (half the size of the old ones) will all use the universal overlay.

I use CCR so I don't need the overlays for any of them.

I don't have any new carts or overlays but I don't understand why the overlay won't work with other carts. When I have use the juke box and used multiple carts I have just left one overlay on so it seems the universal overlay should work with any cart though your might want to number your booklet to match the new system.

You may use the overlays any way you want. If you wanna take the time to number all of the pages in your books like I have seen people post that they do, that's your decision. But the unviersal overlays don't seem to be set up in the 'page' numbering system since its the images that are numbered. Although, I can not speak from experience since I use CCR and I don't use any overlays at all. The old overlays confused me enough that I rarely used my cricut. But now that I use CCR...I don't need any overlay. Whatever is easiest for each person is the way to go.

Thank you for all the replies. This still sounds a bit confusing for me since I loved using the overlays and didn't have a problem with them. I guess it will take some getting used to. I don't use CCR.

Thanks again! BigGrin

I don't use CCR (Gypsy all the way, hope she lives forever) but I did just use the Universal for the first time. It was great! I had my doubts, but I just may be re-numbering all of my old handbooks as I use them. It was VERY simple.
