The patent linked above (thx, Scrapalette) is for a web app like CCR, if not CCR. And there was already a hint on the E2 page about a time based subscription to the cartridge library so its likely that will happen. The photo looks like hardware, but if you had a new machine, why wouldn't you be at CHA? Mystery, indeed.

I think CHA has become too expensive for vendors to see a true return on investment. I know lots of designers/vendors are still there, announcing their new lines, but a lot of those depend on others to sell their items. PC can sell their own. I think it's kinda brilliant and innovative, while a bit risky, to forgo the norm of CHA and use social media to announce a new product. The buzz is all over the FB and yahoo groups I'm in and if people can buy directly from PC, no need to "woo" vendors at CHA to carry the new "thing" in their stores. There are several vendors I know and all 3 of the local stores here who don't attend Winter CHA due to the cost just to attend. Some are already considering not going to Summer CHA this year.

Looks like you can explode the image, for example, a paper doll fully dressed, you can hit a button and her hair, dress and all extra cuts separate into separate cuts so you can cut or send to printer to print. Says you can paint, shade and pattern an image too.

This is what I got from reading the patent, that is hard to understand. I am NOT a lawyer so I am guessing.

What ever it is i want it.

It reads to me like a major software improvement. I would love to have these options available for designing with my Cricuts.BigGrin

It's always a mystery to me why they don't introduce new machines in Oct or Nov and have them available before Christmas. January just seems like the strangest timing.

We need to find "Rebecca" and get her to spill the beans! LOL

This is software. I love this themed collection of glyphs talk. Sounds like the ability to organize images the way I want to and not just by cart. I love that about other software.

Please quit talking about other cutters/software so this thread doesn't get deleted. We know some of you love other products and that's fine. But that's not what this thread or the Cricut forums are for. Blink

Sorry. Took out references. Realistically however it was a very accurate comparison based on the wording of the patent. And definitely not meant as an insult. I would be thrilled if Provocraft played a little catch up.

I am thinking it is a Gypsy type machine with a tablet style. I don't know that I will jump to get one as my Gypsy works just as good today as it did when I got it about 3 years ago. I love my Expression and don't think I will switch until I have to! My Imagine was a spur of the moment purchase that I regret having purchased. It now will not communicate with CCR no matter what I do!

We will all just have to be patient!

Oh I really hope it's a new gypsy BigGrin. I don't have one and I could see myself using one a lot. I didn't want a gypsy when I first got my E2, but I really hate connecting my laptop to my machine whenever I want to do a CCR-made item.

I would be really disappointed if it was a new mini, I really don't care for that machine. If it's a new expression, I think I'll just be a bit depressed Crying. I don't want my E2 to be replaced as I'm sure anyone with the original expression probably wasn't too happy when the E2 came out.

I'm hoping for a new Gypsy! I don't want another Expression. My E2 works great! Something akin to Gypsy is easy for me tote around everywhere. I'm ok with using CCR and I'm more than used to using cloud-based and digital technologies. Whatever it is, it looks like a handheld gaming console that I own. *lol* I hope we find out by the end of this month; I'm hugely curious!

Everytime PC posts about it in FB they add..."coming soon"...makes me laugh and RollEyes

Love a hand-held machine that doesn't require internet or computer AND doesn't use CCR software....but I gave up hoping for this a long time ago

I agree - however, showing something new in January doesn't necessarily mean it'll be available for purchase in January....didn't they showcase the Imagine in January....and it wasn't out to purchase way into the fall?

PC isn't putting new individual posts ... but off and on when they reply to individual people's comments within their post, they add "coming soon".

This is very interesting to read and guess what the new machine will be BUT......I have to interrupt a minute and ask what is "the cloud"? Is that only accessible via Internet? Places I crop don't have Internet available.

Thanks in advance!

For PC cloud, part of the CCR software is located on your hard drive and some of it is located on their servers....the clouds.

Some companies have the customer's software located totally on their servers...the clouds. There is nothing for the customer to download and install on their computer. All updates to the software are done on the companies' servers, not our computers.

Hope that helps. Others will probably have a more detailed answer.

Mary

Based on this patent, http://http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20120160067, it looks to be a machine that will cut images printed from a regular printer (not Imagine)

From the Title - it really seems like it is more about the content (files/designs/cartridges) and how it can be stored and delivered digitally - and not a new machine.. which that picture looks like!

I found an older patent that is described as System and Method for Printing and Cutting - hmmm... !! It was published June 28, 2012 ... Here is a little from that:

It really sounds like a machine that will align for print and cut like the Silhouette, but from the Cricut designs.

That's my (un)educated guess!

LOL

@MaryStillman, CCR requires the user to have access to the Internet--so if this new machine is using "cloud" technology and that means Internet...that is exactly what I DIDN'T want in a new Cricut. It defeats the point of their portability advantage over other machines. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I know several are nervous about PC and instead of letting wild speculation run rampant and having to try and interpret wht a patent may or may not include, it would be nice for PC to just TELL us. What's the big surprise? Do they want to build customer excitement for an upcoming product or not? If its still in some sort of planning stage, wouldn't it be nicetoget feedback from the people who are actually interested in potentially buying this machine? PC needs to round up what little consumer support it has left and release some more info.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just as anxious about the reveal as many of you, but also sad to see a company like PC, who was once ahead of the game drop into the shadows.

I too got the E Mail and my first thought was a new Gypsy !! Maybe wireless?
Well what ever it is I can't wait to see what people do with it. Just hope that it is not too expensive .
PC is not at CHA again? I think that is a big mistake .

If Provocraft really wanted to offer something that would work on a tablet...all they need is an app. No need for a new machine that everyone needs to purchase--just offer us an app....no new hardware needed. :)
