I'm trying to find different ideas for using embellishments on cards. My question to you all is what are some of your favorite embellishments and where do you buy them?

I've only used embossing powders and the paper flowers. I need more ideas!!

First of all, WELCOME! Always glad to see a new paper crafter or Cricut user join the Message Board. Secondly, I LOVE bling....sparkly gems, glitter, and metal pieces.....and I get bling everywhere, from Wal-Mart to JoAnn's, Michael's, LSS, yard sales, thrift stores, my jewelry box, etc. I also like buttons, ribbon, and lace....getting those from the same places listed above, as well as from worn out clothing. I often buy clothes from the thrift store just for the buttons or lace or sparkly bits, etc. I also use thin, colored wire on my cards, especially my guy cards. It is a pain sometimes to get adhered, but well worth the effect. Hope that helps! Blessings, GG.

I have a craft room tour video I just did a few weeks ago, you can click on the different parts of the video to see what I have, I have embellishments in the left side of my zebra drawers and I have an embellishment cart with all my bling and brads and such. If you are just interested in see my embellishments just click on in inside the video, or I listed all the videos in the description of the video. I also show all my physical cricut carts and how I store them.

Warning it will take over 4 hours to watch every video inside my main video. That's why I did it this way so you can those what you want to see. I do have a few stalkers that have watched them all. lol

I use tags, tickets, ribbon, washi tape, paper clips (stars, arrows, etc.), buttons, brads, pearls, gems, enamel dots, stickers and a bunch of other things I can't think of at the moment.

I also like to buy pre-made embellishments. For example, at M's they had these mini books by Martha Stewart. They were about 2x1.5" and were valentine themed. They opened up and had adhesive backing. Something like this I wouldn't want to fuss with making.

Do you use Pinterest? If so, I would try searching for cards based on what you might want to use. Let's say you want to use enamel dots, then try searching "cards with enamel dots" and you should get a decent number of hits.

While I do buy embellishments from time-to-time (rhinestones on cards when they are on clearance that I use randomly....rarely use them in the form they come such as letters/words/phrases, but I use the single flat rhinestones.....buttons, laces I have cut from curtains/clothing, the little see-thru circles/ovals that make a word or image seem bigger, etc., I REALLY LIKE TO MAKE MY OWN EMBELLISHMENTS.

I have a number of punches I can use to lay single images out to make a border; I like to use my button punch to make a lot of different-looking buttons; I like to sew on my cards to give a different look; I make flowers out of thread. These are just a few things I like to make for my cards/projects. I even love to use the different bow images on our cartridges as if it were real ribbon on my projects; love to glitter those bows.

I have hoards of buttons my mom cut off discarded clothing (she made woven rugs, so a lot of the clothing was on their last threads, but they had lots of buttons)! I can't part with any ofthem....crazy, I know. I just can't part with any of them. I have, on occasion, used them on cards I have made for my family (explaining her buttons are on their card) and hoping they cherish those that have momentos of family on them.

These are a few things I do for embellishments.

I love bling and so when I get to the city, I look in the clearance section...there's usually some there discounted crazily. I just used some today on a layout. Regular price was 7.49 and got them on sale for .99 can't go wrong there.

I have lots of ribbon. I also love to make boarders with my punches, Martha Stewart ones are my favs.

I use whatever takes my fancy.

I mainly use brads since there is such a wide varity out there. Brads come in flower shapes, star shapes, & many, many more.
I also use sticker jewels/gems, those you can find fairly cheap too.

I love pearls, they come in a strand or singular at JoAnns. It's endless as others have said.

Just use your imagination & you will come up with all sorts of ideas.

Show us what you make when you do add your embellies. :)

Brads are so, so easy to use. You just poke a small hole in your paper/cardstock & feed the brad through & split the tines & press them flat. It's even easier than it sounds...
