I got this on Friday I used it 3 times the cutting pad already isn't sticky and my computer keeps telling me that Cricut update firmware is needed I have updated 10 times I even deleted the craft room program and reinstalled it still is telling me to update and still not working... very disappointed as this is my first Cricut ever to buy and doesn't not work if I cant get it to work tomorrow I am returning it and prob. not going to get a new one or anything cricut again shouldn't have such problems if its like this with the mini how do I know it isn't like this with the other products. kinda sad you don't have a 24/7 hot line to call or chat to fix this problem.
(I also see that I am not the only person who has problems with this maybe you should take it off the market or fix the problems)

Not worth the money!
After spending all weekend trying to get it to cut through cardstock and light fabric (which it says it can cut), I boxed it up and returned it. The machine would literally jump off the table while cutting cardstock and would only bunch up the fabric, even though it was duct taped to the mat! To make matters worse, customer service isn't available on weekends. Frustration doesn't even begin to express my feelings towards the Mini.

Love My Mini!
I love my mini, it is my first Cricut. I am good with computers and I love the Craft Room (aside from my internet connection being so-so). I like that the Craft Room is as big as your computer screen which allows greater detail. I have never used the screens on the Expression or other machines or the Gypsy, but I think I would get frustrated with the small screens.
From what I can tell what the sacrifices are for the better price are:
1. no screen and not a stand alone machine. This isn't a problem for me since I like the Craft Room and there are tons of videos on the internet to help you with it.
2. From what I can tell in the videos the other machines are quite a bit quieter. It honestly isn't that bad after you get use to the sounds of the machine. My craft area is right below a bedroom and they can't hear me when I work with the machine so it's not so bad.
3. The blade housing is plastic instead of metal - really no big deal at all.
4. The mats are only 8.5 by 12 instead of 12 by 12 or 12 by 24. Not so bad considering the original was 6 by 12.
Over all I think it's a great starting price if you want to see how much you will use it. It is half the price ofthe other machines and the cartridges you buy now you will be able to use if you choose to upgrade to a bigger machine.

Great Machine Hard Install
So I recently bought the Cricut Mini and wanted to tell you about my experience and give you some product information that would help you decide if you want to purchase this item.
As you all know the Cricut Mini is the Cricut machine with the lowest price on the market. It's made to be compact, easy to use, and travel ready. This machine will cut shapes from ¼" up to 11 ¼" on a 8 ½" x 12" cutting mat. Like every other Cricut machine out there you will need to buy cartridges if you want to expand your library. With the Cricut Mini you will get the Cricut Font and Basic Shapes digital cartridge for free. You can use physical or digital cartridges, but you must have this machine connected to a computer to cut. The machine connects to the Cricut Craft Room and all projects are cut from there.
Inside the box you will find: the Cricut Mini machine, 8 ½" x 12" cutting mat, Quick Start Guide, Blade Assembly, USB Cable, and Power Adapter.
Everything is packed well and you shouldn't have any damaged parts when opening the box. You will see the papers and cutting board placed on top of the machine so be careful if you are using a box cutter to open it. Also I would place the cutting mat on a flat surface with something heavy and flat on top to flatten it out. The cutting mat will be slightly curved from packaging but it will work fine.
Installing the machine:
Okay, so this is where many people are having problems. I installed this in a PC with Windows. The Cricut Mini can connect to MAC's. However I didn't do that so I don't you if you will have the same problems. The instructions are fairly easy to understand but don't follow them unless you want a headache for the rest of the night.
As I said earlier the Cricut Mini connects to your computer and uses the Cricut Craft Room. Here is a step by step of how to install your machine one time.
Do not plug your machine into your computer until instructed to or else it will mess everything up and you will have to uninstall and start over.
1. Download and install the older version of Craft Room from http://www.cricut.com/imaginedownload.aspx.
Do not upgrade it at this time.
2. After installing the old version of Craft Room close the program, turn on the Cricut Mini and plug it into your computer. Let it install the drivers. Follow the screen prompts. When you finish it will tell you to turn it off and then turn on the machine. Do that and then hit okay.
3. While the Mini is still plugged in and turned on, open Craft Room and update to the newest version. It will ask you to update as soon as you open the program. Once it is updated you should be fine.
After installing, go ahead and add your free digital cartridge to your Craft Room and start playing around with the machine.
Before you start cutting be advised there has been many mixed reviews about the stickiness of the cutting mats. I agree there is a problem with them. The stickiness seems to last only 3 or 4 cuts before you have any problems. Based on the 2 issues above I would still recommend the Cricut Mini.

Trouble Making Clean Cuts
I bought this specifically for the stork (New Arrivals cartridge). I need 70 of these shapes, but I've only been able to make about 25 of them. This is really frustrating. The blade either doesn't cut all the way through the cardstock, or it bunches up the paper and drags it around. I've tried various combinations with blade length, blade pressure, type of cardstock, new mats, multiple/single cuts, and nothing seems to make it better! I can't recommend this machine to anyone. The only positive things I can say is that it is lightweight, doesn't take up much space, and is a cool idea.

After a few months of researching the Cricut products, I chose the mini because of the Cricut Craft Room and the ability to make your projects on the computer and send it to the mini to cut. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I find it super easy to use Cricut Craft Room and my Cricut cuts like a dream. I read the instructions and adjust the pressure and everything accordingly and it works like a dream. As far as the mats not sticking, I have not had this problem yet but I make sure to press firmly down on the paper to the mat and have not had issues. I would recommend this machine because it's inexpensive and works for what I need it to do!

Nearly 3 months after purchase and this machine will not even load the cutting mat. I worked fairly well for a while. I think I cut about 30 full sheets of cardstock before it stopped working. Pretty expensive die cuts if you ask me. I would think long and hard before buying another one.

Love My Cricut Mini
I bought this in September 2012 and I had some issues with the housing, but after emailing customer service they sent me out a brand new housing and I have never looked back. Customer service was wonderful and my Cricut Mini works fabulously.

Good Little Machine
I purchased my machine from HSN. It was easy to set up. Prior to buying the Mini I used my daughter's Expression. The Mini helped me to better understand the basics of both cutters. I love the Mini for smaller projects. I don't waste paper when I use it. I recently cut out over 100 Christmas decorations for a 9ft Christmas tree. I will cut more soon. I recommend the Mini and the original Expression.

This review is for the machine and not the mats. This machine cuts perfectly and intricate cuts are not a problem. The first cuts I did was the intricate frames and I was amazed that it did so well! Now, the mats are another story. I have to use painters tape after only a few cuts.

my new go to machine
I love this machine. It's lightweight but cuts great and it's very quiet. Connecting to Cricut Craft Room was simple. I hardly use my Expression 2. I love the Mini!

I had to replace the blade ASAP, not sure why, but it cuts great. I use it with my Gypsy and I love the fact that it is smaller and is great for what I use it for. This is not my only machine, my Expression 2 is the best but this mini is my 2nd.

One of the best machines Cricut has made
I love this machine. It has never had any problems, unlike the others, and its precision cutting is second to none. It even cuts better than the Imagine which I love as well. You can't go wrong with this little guy. I only wish they would have made a wireless version for them all.

I have had my Mini for about a month now and it's an awesome little machine. It has gotten me through many a birthday card, 60 Valentine cards, and two science fair projects! It takes all my abuse, and keeps on going. It cuts really nice as well. I love that I just plug it into my computer, and do my stuff on Cricut Craft Room. No complaints from me!

I can't praise this little bug enough. It's simple to use and keeps on going.

Love my mini!
This is my first Cricut machine, and I'm impressed with its versatility. I like using the Cricut Craft Room, especially after a few upgrades to the site. If you buy the larger cutting blade for chipboard it works well on thicker papers that are thicker than cardstock, but I haven't tried it on fabric yet. The mats have improved in the last year, they stay sticky longer. The Only drawbacks are the size limitations with a max paper size of only 8 x 12 and the initial software install took a week to get sorted out. I had to uninstall and reinstall a few times to get everything set. I've had my Mini for 2 years, and I'm thinking about upgrading to the Expressions 2 to allow for larger cuts and more projects. It's a very versatile machine for the price and I've recommended to friends and teachers.

I was nervous to buy this based on the reviews, but it blew my mind the moment I took it out of the box. The detail it cut was amazing. The only issue was the mats stickiness did not last and a couple times a few letters were ripped up. Once I used a new cutting mat the problem was solved. The machine cuts quieter than expected. I love this thing!

When I first got the machine, it either wouldn't cut all the way through or cut with a ragged edge, the blade just tearing the paper. There are other reviews on this site and on the web describing similar problems. I contacted Provo Craft and they sent me a new metal blade housing. The Cricut Mini comes with a plastic one. The new housing seems to be working like a charm. I have had only 1-2 small tears since starting to use the new blade. Perhaps they should discontinue the plastic one and just include the metal one with the Mini. My advice if you are having problems cutting cleanly: contact the company and ask for a new blade.

I bought mine from HSN and I went right to Provo Craft and I returned it. The Mini was cutting up my flowers. They sent me a new one. The red lite went on and it made this awful noise. I returned it again and now machine number 3 is working great. It's quiet as a mouse and it cuts like butter. A bit of a hassle, but Cricut works with you till all is right. What more can you ask?

The Best Cricut
The Mini is awesome! It cuts perfectly and is smooth and quiet. I think I'm going to get another just to keep as a back up. It works well with the Gypsy and Cricut Craft Room. The only thing that could improve would be to use it as a stand alone machine. The technology is far superior to the other machines in my opinion. Also, you can't beat the price. I got mine at Joanns for $99 and it's worth it. If you don't mind using Cricut Craft Room then this is the machine for you!
